Why did they remove old turret/hull models?

 Share

Question

I haven't played tanki for a while, but I started playing again, and when I got on (I'm warrant officer 2 by the way), All my hulls and turrets had the maxed out texture. It's like they just threw the mk0, mk1, mk2 etc models in the bin. I checked all of my turrets and hulls and they were all (not) maxed out. They all had the maxed texture, aka mk4 if im correct, tho they weren't even mk4. They were usually mk0, mk1 or mk2. There's no way someone went on my account and maxed them out, so I don't know why they did this.

Topic moved.

The developers have started updating all the skins to HD skins (like Smoky and Hornet), and in order to do so, they need to choose 1 modification skin remove the rest. The reason behind it is that it would be way too hard to update all modification skins.

stop judging tankers based on their skin ! no racism ! now all are equal...just see gear score in score board by pressing tab.

Ummm. no,  all tankers are not equal. Especially those little hornet rails, that love to kill me for some reason

I think he meant to say that skins do not determine your skill.

One texture for each Mark level is an obsolete system,  now you have other stats that can help you determine the strength of your opponents. Check the Mark level and MU level, and not the picture, skins.
There are too many skins now and they all look the same for any level, so it simplifies everything if standard skin are unique too.

I'll just copy paste my answer from a PM I got with the same question just yesterday :P

The reason is actually quite simple. Developers want to make the game move visually appealing, and the first step is updating all tank models to a new look, which has more polygons, smoother angles, and better details. They're calling them HD skins, and I'm sure you noticed that a few of those already got released. Each of those skins takes a lot more time to produce compared to the older basic skins, and there used to be more than 100 of those skins. Making them all HD and giving them away for free would be a huge waste of resources.

Therefore instead developers decided to reduce the number of default skins to just one per turret/hull, reducing the number of HD skins from >100 down to around 40. Since each HD skin takes days/weeks to make, it makes the process more efficient and cost-effective.

In simple terms:

  • First: the developers made the 4 old Upgrade Modifications, M1, M2 M3, and M3+ into 8 new ones, Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, Mk4, Mk5, Mk6, Mk7, and Mk7+.
  • Second: they wanted to make all designs of each turret ONLY into what M3 looked like. (Max upgrade visual look.)

It's because they then wanted to redesign those old M3 visual looks of all Turrets/Hulls into HD designs!

  • High Definition (HD) designs would be great to have now, considering that we moved into HTML5 and want to, and are getting more futuristic as time passes.
  • With this thought in mind, the developers want to evolve old Turret Designs, Hull Designs, and other items too, as we proceed into this year.

Plus, it would be nice to see the old Turrets/Hulls, etc. from the past, re-designed, cooler, and looking up-to-date.

Don't you think?

I can't wait to see Thunder and Hunter's new High Definition designs! ?
