If you have a Hover-hull and Magnum, you NEED to do this.

So you want to play Magnum on a Hover hull but you can't use mouse control strafing and vertical aiming simultaneously... (Even devs at one point said you can't do it, unless you want to drift around like crazy on keyboard controls!)

SAY NO MORE FAM, DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS BE MEMES!

Here is the secret trick to do it:

Spoiler
  • Remap your left and right turret rotation keys to X and C (center turret key can go on numpad for being useless)**
  • Use Z and X keys to adjust elevation on-the-fly and use mouse controls to rotate and strafe
  • Z and X conveniently fall within your thumb's reach and you won't be using spacebar to shoot on MCs anyway.

*Preferrably I would map the left/right to mouse side buttons, but TO won't register mouse buttons for keys.

**X and C do not change their original functions on MCs even when remapped. It seems MC mode uses its own set of unmappable keys corresponding to the default. Bug found?

Using this trick, you can equip Mortar/AGLM/RGC to shoot while running circles around people on Hopper/Crisis, plus you get rid of that awkward turret correction when you bump into stuff!! Most importantly, you get to use the vertical alts the same way as the horizontal ones, but with their bonus effects and elevation adjustment!!

I have yet to see anybody but myself use this workaround to great effect. Maybe it will get patched, but until then, have fun!

I have been using AGLM with Hopper for a while now, definitely an enjoyable and effective combination. I always put my barrel height at 0 degrees so that I can blast my shot into groups of enemies within close range, I occasionally increase the barrel to around 3 degrees for targets at a somewhat bigger distance. I always go with offense when using this tank, Hoppers speed and manoeuverability make it more than suitable to not camp with it. To add, AGLM charges unbelievably quick and it's reload nerf really is not that noticeable; paired with Booster and you have created a beast. I am quite interested in the augment Harpoon too, the fixed barrel is now somewhat lower from 12 to 3 degrees and the splash radius is significantly smaller making it perfect for close range encounters.
I'm glad someone else notices the usefulness of this combination as well.

I suppose Harpoon still has its use for reducing self-splash damage, but otherwise AGLM/Hopper is much more versatile with the elevation changes and faster charge. On hover hulls especially it's annoying to fight enemies on higher elevation with the horizontal alts...

I don't use vertical-rotation magnum anymore. I like the horizontal rotation much much more. I use the same on hovering as well as classical hulls.

Horizontal rotation is quite relevant for the tracked hulls, but on hover hulls with significantly reduced tilting the vertical alts bring another level of flexibility when fighting on lower elevation/from behind cover. Besides, the strafing and rotating already does the job of the horizontal alts without the turret overcompensation that happens when running into objects.

The only time I would use a horizontal alt for magnum now is for Adrenaline/AP, otherwise AGLM/Mortar set to 3 deg on a hover hull with this technique will accomplish the same thing and more.

Trust me, this with Viking is an amazingly powerful combo.
