They are dark if you make them dark. I'd be really happy to see more themes in MM, only summer and winter is boring.

The battle list (well as of now all battles in the battle list are PRO battles)

The only way the devs could introduce a Night mode is by introducing Headlights™ for the Hulls.

 

Without Headlights™ you will be blind during a night battle, yes, no way to see at all... BUT You can find Headlights™ for each Hull in Ultra Containers. (each Hull has its own Headlight™)

AND remember that you will need Batteries to use the Headlights™, as well.
