Garage Tutorial

Recommended Posts

Tanki needs some type of garage tutorial! When a new player logs into the game it looks like this: Screenshot-2021-05-16-133834.jpg

And yes, if they were truly new to this game, this interface would look daunting. The new player is probably asking: "Do i press the play button?", "What are challenges?", "What is the purpose of the box next to the play button?". Therefore, I think that the devs should utilize descriptions. Here is a diagram of what I think the following descriptions should look like: Inked-Screenshot-2021-05-16-133834-LI.jp

"d" stands for description and I know it look messy but each of these descriptions will pop up one by one so the new player won't be overwhelmed by the onslaught of information presented to them. Overall, I believe that this will help the player understand his/her garage better therefore giving them a better in-game experience.

One last issue regarding tutorials I would like to address is the control of the tank. Lately, I've seen a shockingly high number of players in low and high ranks who don't even turn their turrets. To help them, I suggest there should be a video-about controlling a tank via mouse or keyboard- that plays right when the player enters their garage. Hopefully this will guide them in improving their own skill in the game. Anyways, that's all for now and I'm open for any revisions.

The tutorial from back in the day was one of the better ideas the devs came up with.

Of course it would now have to go into a bit more depth, but it would be a good help for new players if it were re-introduced.

Exactly I was thinking the same tutorial but the player can only move on if they complete mini checkpoints like turning their turret, driving to a supply drop, activating supplies, or activating an overdrive. With these additions, a new player could hopefully understand all the things that happen in a battle.

The tutorials are really annoying, I don't read them for any game I play, even if it was extremely complicated.

Yes I do understand your perspective on tutorials. However, without them, newer players will find it harder to start off in a game they don't fully understand.

Yes, you may say that they can learn it by themselves and it will be more "fun" that way but will the player really have fun? Suppose a person happens to come across tanki online and creates a new account. Instantly, they are sent to a garage interface that is completely new to them. They have no idea what some of these various buttons lead them to and are confused on where to start. Alas, the only obvious button is the “play” button at the top left. They press it and then they enter a battle in sandbox. Again, when they spawn, there is no tutorial on how to drive the tank, turn the turret, or activate supplies/overdrives. In short, the player is alone and confused. Soon, they finally learn to drive the tank and shoot. However, they are still missing out on several key points of the battle. “What are those strange symbols over other player’s tanks?”, “What do I do in this battle? (Control points, rugby, assault)”, “How do players have these special abilities I don't know how to activate?”. Those are possibly some questions running through that player’s mind while they are participating in the battle. For some players, this is ok, for others, this would be very frustrating and they would sooner quit than learn other aspects of this game they were and will never get introduced to. Again, I do understand that some players are able to bypass this barrier but what about the others who wish to fully utilize their skills and knowledge of the game earlier in their tanki careers? Wouldn't it be fair to give them that chance instead of sending them off without that knowledge?

Umm honestly it depends, if you meant by the tutorial to be like many games who forces you to do like them step by step for a 5 minutes or around, then after that forcing you to buy a certain things. That's a really annoying especially for the old players who created a new account (most of the new players)

But if you mean as just instructions and tips, I don't have a problem with this.

For my experience, whenever I try to force myself to read the instructions/tutorials in a game before I play, I just feel lost and don't understand a thing. I just decide to go play and mess with things, then after I understand the game with myself I return to the tutorial to understand perfectly.

There are many many players who enter the game just to test it quickly and leaving after that, they don't ever want to read the instructions

Yes I do agree with that. I usually hate tutorials where you have to buy things and it saps at my patience. However I do find that those tutorials benefit me greatly since I know what I'm doing and I have great confidence while playing the game.

This tutorial I'm suggesting isn't really going to be buying. It's mainly going to be informative like you said and shouldn't last for more than a minute. The reason why I wanted to bring back the old flash tutorial is because it was honestly a fun experience when I first found tanki and bringing it back with a few tweaks to make it more aquatinted with the "modern" version of tanki which would be quite helpful to new players. I kind of rushed this but I hope you see my point .
