Expanding a bit on Sabry's answer, the overdrive will end in 7 seconds, whether you fire or not. In some cases (like with thunder or other splash turrets in close quarters) it may be beneficial to take aim for a second before firing, but generally it's best to just let loose shots immediately and for the whole time to get the maximum power out of the overdrive.

Hi! 

Basically when the Overdrive is enabled (for Viking) you can start to fire right after it. It is not a mandatory that you fire immediately right after you activate it, but in this case it is your choice, and maybe about your tactic, but in theory, you can fire right after enabling it

As Sabry and kydapoot said, it would be in your best interest to start firing immediately after you activate your overdrive.

Not sure why you asked tho, since Viking is your second used hull and you have earned lots of EXP with it...

Strange question honestly! When you activate your Viking OD you have a 7 seconds, back on you if you want to use it immediately or delay it mindlessly!
