What do you think determines which hulls are given for free or can be bought at the lowest rank, and which ones are in containers?

Is it based on popularity? Or how good the devs think they are? (And therefore not viewing them as balanced) Or nothing in particular, just whatever that might seem more exciting to try out and try to get containers for a new player?

However much money they can make from anything is how they determine the choices they make here.

No idea. My first guess would be that more complicated/interesting overdrives are harder to get, or become available later. Though looking at the unlock ranks, it just feels arbitrary.

But having this forced idea of different value and rarity definitely helps keep new players interested. Instead of having everything unlocked and available right away, a new player might be looking at the unavailable equipment and thinking how cool that item must be if it unlocks so much later compared to other stuff, so it would be fun to try it out. Thus they keep playing.

Except that unbalanced matchmaking system undermines the entire process when a new player gets continually one-shotted from the other side of the arena by someone with a gear score 6k higher than them (and who already has that unavailable new equipment).

New players obviously lose interest fast.

As evidenced by the number of players tanki has lost.

Not saying that you're wrong, but it's usually not as simple as that.

The question "Is Tanki Online dying?" is not for this topic, but feel free to check out this post for a decent explanation of whether Tanki is actually dying and if it's because of "bad updates".

I know that is the trend for online games (and pretty much online anything--remember myspace...?) to go up and then gradually decline and die.

However, think of the broader aspect of gaming:

There are still hardcore people who play monopoly.

Yes, monopoly.

And that was invented in 1935 and it's rules have never ever, ever, changed.

They didn't introduce new properties. They didn't introduce new magic rules or anything like that.

And people STILL buy it and play it often.

Point is, the people who play 'the next best thing' games always leave.

Those people get easily tired of the 'floaty tanks', questionable updates, nerfs and the game itself in general.

And those are the kinds of people are who tanki is currently marketing their game for (with all the kooky floaty tanks and nerfy updates).

The players they SHOULD be marketing their game for are the hardcore ones who never leave.

In other words... the monopoly players.

Bruh i have 5.5k gearscore. I need to be top 3 one more time for special missions to finish getting 15 ultras. But everytime I do, i'm put into a server where there's legends and their gearscore is 9999 and really cant move or do anything cause ill just die in my track so i have to server hop a bunch of times

matchmaking is realllllly unbalanced

I think they give a medium hull because it is the most liked category, then crusader for mobile users and viking because of its popularity. More odds you like the hull.
