Beware of SCAMS in Tanki Online - A guide how to avoid them !!

Hello and welcome all. This is a topic I am creating just to create awareness on the different types of scams that run in Tanki Online as well as some real screenshots. This topic is not meant to harass or abuse any player who may or may not be involved in these illicit activities. Just as I mentioned, this topic is purely for creating an awareness to various types of scams and how not to be a victim of one.

No players will be named and will be blurred to keep them hidden

Although there are many ways innocent players get scammed, in this topic I will be discussing 2 of the commonly seen ones

Type 1 : "Give me your password"

So this may be the oldest and most common form of scam that exists in Tanki. The scam starts off with a  random player you may or may not have seen before starts a small conversation with you.  Usually with "Hi's" and "Hey's". This then progresses into him either sending you a friend request or asking you to add him to friends list. They may also ask for your discord so they can contact you there.

The traditional method then progresses by the person inviting you into a Private PRO battle. This way its only you and him/her there. They then tell you that they will get you lots of Tankcoins or crystals for free. I mean who doesn't like them ? But they then ask for your account password so they can buy it for you. You may think - "Obviously if they ask for my password, its a scam". Well there that few percentage of players (especially low ranked or newbie players) that may still fall for this.

If you do give them your real password, they login ASAP and try to change the password if you still have not linked your email (which you should do by the way). Another thing they might do if you have your email linked is, they may waste all your crystals you saved up, open your containers you saved up or even use hacks on that account to get it banned.

Chances of getting your account back are relatively higher than other scams, but Tanki will never return crystals or tankcoins that have been already spent in the garage whatever the reason is. SO never ever share the password with anyone in-game or anywhere else. Just ignore these people and unfriend them immediately. Below are some images of a person trying to scam my alt. account (I just played along to waste his time xD)

Type 2 : Refund Scam (More dangerous)

Now these type of scammers are really annoying if you ever fall into their trap. They also seem very convincing and get you the things they promise you in a way. This is more of a sabotage or "hurting you" than a normal scam.

So the scam starts similar to the first type, where a  person (Only this time they may already have a really good account and all the P2W stuff) adds you to his/friends list and invites you to a Private PRO battle. Once you join they mostly will show off their skins and all maxed combo (this is all an act to gain your confidence, to make you think they don't need to scam you since they got everything), after which they will "kindly" offer you lots of tankcoins in return for nothing. (Too good to be true ? - well you are wrong )

This time they wont even ask for your password (which is also another act to make you think this is in no way a scam). They will ask you to go to your shop, click on one of the tankcoins bundle - click PayPal/ back card option and send them the link that comes above on the page.  Its the web address that redirects your purchase to a PayPal or bank website where they can enter their details and purchase it for you.

Now you wont believe what I may say next; they will actually buy you the amount of Tankcoins promised. If its 10.000, they will make sure they buy it. Now you may say hey ? what's wrong, I got my tankcoins without giving out my information or password. Its a win for me!! Well that's where the scam begins. Once you get the tankcoins, you are most likely to spend them in shop to buy offers or bundles.

These scammers then wait for 1-2 days or sometimes even few hours to make sure you have used the some of the tankcoins they bought for you. Then they either contact PayPal or call their bank and say that " I never made a purchase from Tanki Online- its most likely fraud purchase". They will then request a refund for that exact Tankcoins they bought you. Once this transaction gets refunded, your Tanki Online accounts get instantly blocked for "Fraudulent purchase" or "Refund of In-game currency" and trust me when I say your account is done for. And your very unlikely to get any help. All your hours of grinding and playing in your account gone forever because you couldn't see it coming.

HOW TO AVOID 99% OF SCAMS AND HAVE A SAFE ACCOUNT

> Never ever share your password with anyone, not even your Family (that's an over-exaggeration, but you get the point). Your Tanki Online account password if for your eyes only.

> Always have a Gmail/email linked to your account no matter what. All the password resetting and account issue can be discussed there.

> Try to switch in 2FA ( 2 factor authentication ) Settings > security > Enable 2FA.

> Never share your account KEY with anyone.

> Incase you witness another person falling into a scam, warn them. What goes around, comes around.

> If you suspect a person of being a scammer, totally ignore them and do not join the maps they invite you to click any link they may send you through Discord/WhatsApp etc.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GOT SCAMMED ? (SMH)

Immediately try to change your password using the email system. If that's not possible, contact help@tankionline.com ASAP and describe your problem, and you may have to fill an account missing form. If you have been badly scammed, the Tanki Community has gotten your back. They will try their best to revive it. Since prevention is always better than cure, make sure you avoid scammers.

Feel free to comment on this, and also share your experience if you ever had one with a scammer.  And again, please do not name any players or call out any one for scamming etc. This is just there to help upcoming players or people who want to know more about account security.

Thanks a million guys, I really wanted to outline the importance to new players and others who may not be aware of the risk. Really value all your comments.

Very great and detailed article. As a former reporter I can tell you that I even thought it was on the AWS section given the fact it was well written.

I also find that writing this informative post was a good idea, for those who might not be aware of this. As for the technical support, yeah, those are the people who deals with this. They will always try to help you.
