Personally I would choose the 2nd option.

The first link is usually to retrieve an account that you lost or maybe do not know the email and password or any information. Since he gets the error it means his password is correct, but he can not access the account due to the  "control channel disconnect exception," error

I suggest doing one of 3 things and see if any of them works first;

1) Try to restart your Wi-Fi router, and login to Tanki. Maybe also try switching off the Wi-Fi of your device and reconnecting it.

2) Try clearing your browser cache and Tanki Online history if necessary and login again (That is if you remember your password correctly) Client cache if you are using client version.

3) If this issue persist even after these methods and for a longer time, contact tanki  with the email you registered with your Tanki account : help@tankionline.com
