So, I have recently ranked up and realised my mk4-10 hull and turret does not let me upgrade to mk5 for free and is now asking me to pay the full amount for it. Has there been any recent update on micro-upgrades?

They have merged the upgrade and speed up buttons into one that does both. They also removed the speed up prices.

 

They also removed the 100% discount for fully upgrading the modification.

So it is essentially a waste of crystals to micro-upgrade because you're gonna have to pay the full amount again after you get the required rank?

The bulk of the prices will come from the second half of the micro-upgrades. The first half is just around 25% of the total cost.

Ideally you want to max out Brutus early on and then focus on putting in as much upgrades as you can into a second drone.

Yes, upgrading makes sense only after m7. Before that it's a waste. Players go through ranks too fast and alts, drones and ODs play much bigger role that bare upgrades. Save your crystals for something more useful like alts.

I find it incredible that this is not clearly stated anywhere. There should be a big red sign next to the microupgrade button saying WARNING you will pay double. I waisted so much crystals before realizing this.

Not giving a discount for halfway microupgraded gear when entering next MK-level is ok...ish. But *fully upgraded - still full price* is a blatant provocation. What can possibly be the devs thought behind this?

Their thought process goes no further than "what can we do next to scam the players out of as much as possible".

Even on a 50% discount, that is quite a hefty price for something that is just meh in general. There's only a few crystal augments that are actually good. The rest are either just meh or not very good.

I can understand if you just got back into the game. But if someone had been playing before the update came, its hard to be understanding to that person.

I would expect owners to understand that kicks to the groin area like this is not a way to make me become a paying customer. If you are right, and the lack of other explanations suggest that you are, they are now explicitly saying from the start: this will be an abusive relationship.

But on second thought, this may actually be wise as a business decision. I am the kind of person who will never ever put a single dollar into the game. I don’t even touch stuff like this game on a computer that has any of my personal details, real name etc. But for the people who are inclined to part with their cash, it may be a question of just getting to the purchase threshold asap.

The long term consequences however is a complex equation, and a gamble on game owners’ part. The ecosystem relies on a significant playerbase of f2p ppl who are willing to face, now not only OP p2w’s, but also nuisances like the microupgrade scam, the dwindling rewards etc. There must be a tipping point.

Well they did already just removed 10 drone, some of them are coming back as hull augments. If they remove the rest of the drones, they'd lose a good chunk of revenue. Doesn't take someone so smart to come up with this when its really just common sense.
