Why do my shots appear as though I'm hacking, even though I'm not?

 Share

Question

Well, I'm an xp/bp player and those who are familiar with the term ''pixel'' will probably find this interesting.

My aim is quite good in maps in which i play regularly and i usually pixel players, with many of them congratulating me for these insane shots. However, recently, probably after the ddos thing, my ping saw an increase from 100-150 to 150-200. During this time, whenever i pixel someone, i get called a ''hacker''. The last few weeks have been worse, with some of my friends being suspicious of me and even unfriending me because they think I'm hacking. I wasn't believing them until someone sent me an unlisted yt video in which his friend recorded his gameplay against me.

Here is the video, if anyone is interested. None of my shots went through the wall, all of them hitting either the player or OUTSIDE the cover (next to the wall) but never through the walls. I'm confused beecause from my pov, all my shots of this kind appear like clean pixels. I'm used to players hitting me like this because I always assumed my ping was bad and that's why tanki doesn't sync their shots on my laptop well. I never knew my shots could have the same effect on low ping players though. Can someone enlighten me on the matter? Thanks.

The game's servers are just having a hard time keeping up with everything that's going on.

I have a theory that's added to this, not sure if its correct but here goes:

The servers have to simultaneously keep up with everything that goes on in the game. And I don't mean just what's happening in that particular battle. I could also involve things like keeping up with what's happening in other battles, the entire MM system, players opening their garages, claiming their missions or opening their containers, purchases being made, accounts being made, etc. Literally everything.

So no I don't think you are hacking. I think the servers are just being stressed to their limits.

Its either "hacking" or something else. Its cursed by ur point of the view and his point of the view.
I think its called "de-sync".
In ur point of view you can hit the player like you did before. But in the view/perspective of the other player you just hit, it could look else like.

Almost the same theory is, when you are about to make someone miss, with ur own shot.
In your perspective you made him 100% miss, but on his its not quite like that and hit you without a problem.

I would not say to someone that he is using "hacks" right away.

I mean I am not surprised he is annoyed, there are many shots that are at least a meter or two away from him that should not be making contact from his side. You can also see at one point that when he touches opponent's flag it is not immediately retrieved, so some sort of connection issue must be present, might not even be his connection, just the low quality of Tanki's servers, the delay between players and the servers, the distance from him to the main servers in Netherlands. I do see this basically daily.

Would have been cool if you had also provided footage.

But yeah, you just have to understand that it's really frustrating to play against high ping players, everything you see in your POV is incredibly delayed compared to others. That's why many games have servers in different locations, so players from one end of the world and the other don't end up in the same match, because of exactly what is shown in the video that was posted. There's nothing you can do regarding your connection to the server, besides hoping for some breakthrough in connection technology. Moving to some country that is closer to the servers is a possibility, I guess

As others have pointed out, your shots "miss" by a good mile and still register the damage, so I see why they'd think you're hacking. But if you were using aimbot, your shots would go through walls too. I hope Forum users start understanding the difference between aimbot and lag now...

Not really between lag and aimbot but rathdr between high ping and aimbot. Hope people from the xp/bp community also start to understand this. The reason i made this post and decided to record videos is because i played a match against someone in zone. I was pixelling him a lot but on his screen, my shots were outrageous. This tanker then proceeded to post the video on youtube as unlisted and reported me on the russian forum for using aimbot lol. That's a player with easily 6 years of experience playing xp/bp but still can't tell the difference between high ping (not even lag) and aimbot, smh.

While I do agree to an extent that shots going through walls can be a good indication of aimbot users, I don't think its right to rule it out as such right away without having more conclusive evidence.

If the shots go through the walls 3-4 or more times consistently without fail, then it can be considered report worthy.

Sometimes shots going through walls can also be a result of servers not recognizing the obstacles in time.

Hmm, makes sense.

Lag is the period of time between one event and another (could also say latency in this case, latency=ping). High ping delays everything you see and do. When someone is pressing W to drive forwards, you see it happen way later than when they actually started, due to your high ping, which means you lag.

You're a lagger unfortunately, my friend.

Everyone is lagging to some extent, by the way. Ping is the time it takes data from your computer to go to the servers and back, in milliseconds. The higher it is, the more you're out of sync, the more you lag.

It's a big problem nowadays, it's no secret that many players cheat so everyone who appears as such will be called a cheater. I've raised the issue and hopefully it will be fixed one day. I've decided to stop playing XP/BP due to this issue.

Your definition of lag is probably technical in nature, but what I was referring to, was the lag which significantly affects your gameplay, in the sense that for example, one of the two players in a 1v1 is randomly penalised. For example, if my ping is in the range of 150-200, and it remains in this range for a given time period, I would say that I am not lagging and my opponent would most probably agree with me because as you could see in the video, my movement was smooth. However, as you could also see in the video, I ''lagged'' once, meaning that my ping went out of this range and was above 250. My opponent commented that I lagged at this moment and i acknowledge this. Hence why I wanted to differentiate between ''high ping'' and ''lag'' because according to your definition, everyone lags to some extent but the way the word ''lag'' is currently used  in the xp/bp community differs from that of your definition, (i.e I might not ''lag'', even with a high ping).

Yeah. When i first read your message, i thought that you were stupid for stopping to play xp/bp only cuz of this reason but as days went by, I couldn't play even one 1v1 battle, without people calling me a cheater. I've resorted to pause xp/bp for a while ? Btw, I tried xp/bp on the mobile version and i bought a fast mobile data package. My ping went from 150-200 on pc to a somewhat constant 100 on mobile. However, as the controls on mobile are trash (i can prove it), I connected my keyboard to my mobile and was able to play well. However, I use mouse for xp/bp and in the ''controls'' setting, there are 3 options, namely ''touchscreen'', ''keyboard'' and ''mouse and keyboard''. I chose the third option and connected my mouse and my keyboard to my mobile with the help of a ''usb adaptor''. The keyboard part was ok but not the mouse one. My cursor would only hover over the screen but wouldn't disappear and let me control my turret. My question to you is why is there such an option, when it clearly doesn't work?
