Allow Only Selected Friends to Send Invites

Hi, I’d like to suggest an improvement to the invite system. Right now, anyone on your friends list can send you invites, including people you don’t know well, which can lead to unwanted or spam invites.

It would be great to have a feature that lets us:

  1. Select Specific Friends Who Can Send Invites: This would allow us to create a list of close friends or trusted players who are allowed to send invites to maps or groups, reducing the chance of spam or prank invites from others.
  2. Ignore Invites from Other Friends: For the rest of the friends who aren’t on that list, we should be able to either ignore their invites or not receive invites from them at all.

This would give players more control over who can interact with them through invites, making the experience much more enjoyable and less frustrating.

Thanks for considering this!.

I don't quite understand the purpose of this. Not sure what your definition of "friend" is, but if I have someone in my friends list whom I don't know well and will never accept battle invites from, then they're not my friend and I'll just delete them, especially if they're regularly spamming me with invites. Isn't that how a friends list is supposed to be used?

Solution: don't add such people to your FL.

Thank you for your reply! I understand your perspective, but I’d like to add that there are scenarios where a feature like this would be very useful. For example:

  • For YouTubers or Popular Players: Some players, like content creators or well-known members of the community, tend to have a lot of friends on their list. They don’t necessarily play with all of them but still want to maintain those connections for community engagement. However, this often leads to spam invites, which can become disruptive.

  • Selective Playstyle: Even for non-creators, some players maintain larger friends lists because they enjoy connecting widely but only actively play with a smaller, trusted circle. Being able to customize who can send invites allows them to manage interactions without having to remove others or risk misunderstandings.

This isn’t about redefining friendship but about providing players with more flexibility and control over their experience. It’s a quality-of-life improvement that could benefit various player types and enhance their enjoyment of the game.

Hi, you provide interesting scenarios, but if these friends can't send invites, there's no "community engagement" or meaningful interactions. Because they'll just be on that list and that's it? There're no other features currently for the friend list... So there's no reason to add them as friends, frankly I don't see any added value for this suggestion atm.

Thank you for your reply and insights! I understand your concern about the potential lack of interaction if some friends can’t send invites, but I’d like to clarify my perspective:

  1. Friend Lists Serve Multiple Purposes: Not all connections on the friend list are for direct gameplay, and that’s okay. For example, players might add others to keep track of their activity, or simply maintain a connection for future opportunities.

  2. Improving Interaction Quality: By customizing invite permissions, players can avoid unwanted interactions (like spam invites) and focus on meaningful ones. This doesn’t reduce engagement but ensures it happens on better terms, making it a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

  3. A Flexible System Enhances Friend List Utility: While the current friend list is limited to sending invites and seeing online status, adding flexibility makes it more versatile. Players can still maintain connections, but without the pressure of frequent interruptions or the need to prune their list constantly.

Ultimately, this feature wouldn’t detract from the system but would add an extra layer of personalization, which benefits a variety of player types, from casuals to content creators.

Thanks for clarifying what you meant, ChatGPT.
