Was anybody SERIOUSLY surprised about 2.0's delay?

Were any of you seriously surprised when you saw the delay of 2.0 after seeing the state of 2.0 testing?

I know I wasn't. The first time I saw 2.0 testing, I immediately thought: 2.0 is definitely going to be delayed.

No.

Tanki is a TPS (Third Person Shooter) game, and as such there is one primary imperative goal that it should meet - SMOOTH SPEED for play. All other goals are just secondary - diversity of play options, game enhancements, goodies, etc. And currently Tanki 2.0 fails this very primary goal. Remember the lags with Tanki 1.0 several months ago? Every other nice aspect of the game was immediately forgotten, but every shouted "LAGS!".

The big problem with Tanki 2.0 is that it tries to live on the very cutting edge of the Flash technology and to push online shooter gaming beyond the limits of the Flash technology. Very DETAILED nice looking graphics, as a rule, is always a lag generator for FPS/TPS games. Even latest Alternativa platform Flash Molehil 3D GPU demos - Alternativa Demos - are kind of choppy, superb graphics, but still I have extreme difficulties driving that MaxRacer car at low graphics, diving like a drunkard . Medium and High detail not drivable at all.

Taking into consideration there is no graphic detail setup for the Tanki 2.0 game on server (and no client), and the non-trivial task of game-play synchronization, the beauty of the graphics may turn for quite a while into an unsurmountable lags stopper. Let us hope they succeed. So let us grant the developers time and don't push on them.

Even now, at the time of Tanki 1.0 there're complaints against bad (low) smoothness of a gameplay. Surely, while shooting you need accurate and precious motion. Nowadays players need very stable (in/out) internet connection and it's a known fact that ADSL connection is not as stable as cable and that causes many problems.

I totally agree with Mokpama_rapra: cutting edge "boosted flash" technology takes the game graphics on higher level, but on the other hand requires a high-performance HW on a user-side.

As many of you, I prefer smooth motion over high quality detailised graphics.

I'll not close this thread, though following Mok's insightful and thorough remarks, little more of genuine worth could be said, at least said any better. I concur. If any of those who festoon the forum and chat with intolerant whining and castigating, I simply request you to show me your browser based efforts, so I may enjoy how much better your work must certainly be to lay criticism on the Tanki whiz's for what they endevor to achieve. Patience is a virtue, and this enables the impatient to develop theirs. Har!

why dont they make a option for people to choose if they want high or low detail? People with fazst computers can choose high detail and people with low speed lagging computers can choose low detail.

Yes I was surprised and here is why.

They declared the version they pushed out for open use, Open BETA Testing and had hard dates set. BETA testing would involve the following:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_testing#Objectives_of_testing

Ultimately what they did was create an Open ALPHA Testing scenario. Had they declared it such, I would not be as frustrated as I am right now as I spent down some crystals on both the Hard release date and the declaration that it was in OPEN BETA testing a month prior. I would have just stayed my course of gathering crystals for a higher end paint or an M3 viking but instead spent 8k on two paints under the misinformation supplied thinking it negligible upon the BETA release date.

Also, in most of the FEEDBACK discussions, people were misled to believe that the LAG and disconnect issues were a product of the TESTING SERVER, NOT of the inferior product. Constantly the refrain was, "The Lag is a function of the servers." You can't connect because the servers load is limited and so on and so forth. Again, the customers perception of the product and the release date holding fast was reinforced, NOT diminished. More information to indicate that spending any crystals that this point would have ZERO ramifications due to the the 2.0 release perceptions on receiving all of your crystals back.

So regardless of the date, they misled the consumer based on how they defined it and the feedback they provided during the process of testing. To be quite honest, I have NEVER seen a company take an OPEN BETA and not push it out on the date given once released for testing by the public, but I have seen companies create OPEN ALPHA situations to test their product on higher loads to get more accurate OPEN BETA release dates.

Am I infuriated they didn't push out an inferior product, no. I am SIGNIFICANTLY frustrated on how they both defined and misled the customer on the status of their product for release, YES, YES I AM. It has impacted my 1.0 upgrade path at this point and left me at a significant disadvantage until they can create a release date with a viable product.

I would just like to

1. See tanki acknowledge this AND

2. Recompensate those that made purchases due to their poor information and planning.

Then all would be happy in Whosville again.

Well I Got ADSL And There Is No Slowness Of The Tanki 2.0 Test. Its All Smooth For Me.
