[Forum Game] Similes

In this forum game, a poster will put down half of a simile. (i.e. As big as...)

The poster after that will finish it. (i.e. ...an elephant) and start a new one.

 

I'll start:

A simile is a speech phrase that compares two dissimilar items. What are you trying to compare in your starting example? Perhaps you should have said:

 

The court jester's nose was as long as....

 

or better still:

 

The court jester's nose.....(this gives the responder greater flexibility with the simile.)

No, a simile is a phrase that simply says something is like something else, they don't have to be dissimilar.

While they don't have to be dissimilar, that is the basic tenet of a simile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simile

Noble, I've played a word game called "similes", and this is how it works. While it doesn't follow the exact grammatical rules, it's still fun and amusing. After all, if it really matters that much, why don't we just change this game's name?
