Railguns are best for defense and sniping, although I run flags with it.

My 4 steps for using the Railgun:

1. Take cover

2. Peek out to shoot

3. Return to cover and switch locations

4. Repeat.

i do all those exept i dont switch places

Rail is a universal weapon. It can be used for almost anything, though caping enemy flags is not advisable. Any other activity is welcomed. It is very good in defense, cos it inflicts massive damage from any distance, and it can turn over enemy Hornets easily. It is good in the midfield, cos the railgunner can injure enemy attackers, meet and cover friendly flag carriers. It is also good for supporting friendly attackers at enemy base, cos it can kill key defenders with 1-2 shots.

Competent Railgunners will do all of the above. You`re right though, not everyone switches places.

I didn't use railgun until I got it m2 as a sergeant-major. It was ok, but it was annoying when facing mammoths and could not two-shot them. Back then, I can't remember what I did with it... I think I was a mid-range sniper, shooting at people in large maps but not being behind cover. It didn't work too well.

When I got m3 as a wo2, I soon noticed how overpowered it was at that rank. As a result, I went charging about in the open with it and managed to do very well. Mainly due to the fact of how powerful it was.

But it gradually declined as more and more of the enemies I faced had viking and m3 railgun was no longer near as good. I had to adjust my gameplay, and now I am a primarily camper-sniper player. This doesn't mean I can't go charging into the enemy base, but it means that mainly I just hide and snipe. I find it works very well for now, and I'm getting better and better at it. One good thing is to use any cover you have, even apparently rubbish cover such as small telegraph poles. Those can work very well for some cover, you know.

But don't get over defensive, some of the best camping spots are in the enemy base if you double power. And also, don't try to cross half the map to get to the "best" position. Use what you have, and use it to the best advantage you can. Look at all the cover you have and use it. There are loads more tips but I can't be bothered to write them down atm. ;)

Going into the middle of the fight and slaughtering freezes and Ricochets. I am an unstoppable force with my Hornet M0, and no one stands before me. If it weren't for those camping Isidas (!) I would be able to take out the entire enemy base single-handed!

I'd assume from this that you are a sergeant-major or wo1. After this, hornet m0 just gets slaughtered. Trust me, you will need to consider about the long term and think of quickly upgrading your hornet or switching to a viking (maybe just temporarily until you have hornet m2?) Railgun with m0 hornet is not a good idea, unless the railgun is m3 and your rank is below wo3 so you can slaughter everyone.

I hate when my sarcasm doesn't bleed through well enough. I just hate it.

Yes, sarcasm online needs to be very obvious to get through.

In high rank battle railgun is pretty much only defense/sniping, while in the lower rank is a more complete weapon, since it can take out the most used hulls used there.

Sniper-born players, like me, tend to have a high rating even without buying (when bought crystalz were used to calculate rating) due to the high D/Ls got.
