Some ideas for the forum....

Recommended Posts

First of all, please can there only be reasonable discussion on this thread. Only post if you think that what you say is relevant, interesting, important, and needed. If what you say is not needed, don't say it. Simplez.

First idea: A new section called Q&A

So often on the forum people post a question and get trolled by people saying "I think the answer is......" and getting it wrong, or just people plain trolling due to bad grammar, a repeated question, or an incorrect forum section. This would be plain annoying for the OP, who just posts a question wanting the answer. Can't there just be a section called Q&A where only mods and a select few others (because the mods can't be everywhere at once) can only answer to questions?.

But any other people answering, short of these selected few, get a ban, or at least their post edited out. This would solve a lot of problems with questions not being answered properly or correctly. Then, questions asked by people (about whatever) can be answered correctly. Most people only come onto the forum to ask a question, be it about the test server, weapons, 2.0, or whatever. They don't look at older topics, and they just want their question answered plainly. This is not happening. This new section could solve a lot of these problems.

Second idea: Scrap post count, or the exact number of messages each person has posted.

Does it actually matter how many posts each of us have? Really? It's not as if it matters, and all it does is encourage flood from idiots who want their post count higher. If possible, get rid of it, so that nobody has the temptation to post for their post-count. I'd like to see how much flood reduces if this happens... I suspect that most people only post on the forum to get their post count up. This is not good. Scrapping the post count could seriously help the flood to be reduced, as people who were posting just to get their post count up would stop. If you want a way of seeing how respectable someone is on the forum, as post count is often used to measure, then a mod-based reputation system will serve well, methinks.

Third idea: The numpties who say "Mods lock this" should be banned.

Seriously, what is more blatant, obvious, flood? Do you seriously think the mods need any help in their decision to lock a thread? Do you seriously think that a mod will not lock the thread even if the title says "Lock this"? Yet some of you just go and post, saying "mods lock this". Why? Of course, it surely is because you want to help the mods.... right? As if they need help in this. Keep mum and let them do their job. All you are doing is bumping the topic again, something which is definitely not needed.

I'm not saying that adding a short "this thread should be locked" at the end of a long post should be a bannable offence, I'm talking more about the idiots who say "mods lock this" on threads... Example.. This should be a bannable offence, as it is blatant, ugly, flood.

These are my ideas to improve the forum. Again, I repeat, only reply if your contribution is what you deem helpful. I will hold you to your word if you post here, and assume that means you think your post is helpful. If it blatantly isn't... do not be surprised if I give you a stern telling off.

First idea: section complaint already exist and your rules are the same of that section.. Third idea: if someone have finish to guess things in his topic, he can say close this, to keep spammers away :) so you should look and learn a bit more about forum and after return here :) bye

I had a feeling this would happen.... :P

Interesting... you tell me to learn a bit about the forum. Sounds a bit like hypocricy to me.

I think you do: my section was for questions, not complaints. And the rules for the complaints section are barely being kept anyway. Anyway, why would anyone post a question in the complaints section? It would have to be renamed, wouldn't it? Wow, your logic just was fantastic.

Thirdly, yes, of course the OP can post that. That is a bit of an obvious thing. I'm talking about what happened in my example, where trolls just post in a useless thread telling the mod to lock it, in order to flood... please read what I say instead of just looking through my headings and making judgements that way.

Idea 1: Regarding the Q and A. It is a good idea in theory. However, it would be difficult to track who posts and who doesn`t. Besides, if someone who is not in the "selected few" answers a question correctly, do they still get banned? They would also most likely have to give them some special attribute about their profile to make them identifiable. The FAQ seems to help to an extent. People just don`t read it. >.>

Better yet: Why not just make asking about the test server and Tanki 2.0 a bannable offense? :P

Idea 2: Not a bad idea. I`m a member on other sites that do in fact utilize a reputation system. It`s a good way to identify more easily users that are worth something to the community or just plain idiots. Getting rid of an incentive such as post number would most likely encourage more intelligent posting instead of one word posts.

It would be tough to scrap the post count though. That`s a lot of code to edit out. I`m no webmaster, but it would most likely take some time and effort (if it`s even possible.)

Idea 3: Annoying as the phrase may be, I don`t think that it constitutes a ban. Deletion maybe, but not a ban. If it`s the topic of OP, then yes, ban the OP. That would be a blatant flood topic.

Idea 1 is on FAQ -.-

Oh really? Where? And does it make a difference to anyone. Like I said, everyone just comes on the forum to ask a question. They don't look through old threads and they just want to create a new topic for themselves. You can't do that in FAQ, and they don't look through it.

There could be something on their profile, I'm not here really to discuss the ins and outs of this forum section. And the FAQ might help, but lots of people don't want to read anything. They just want to post, just as you seemed to say. And how hard would it be to keep track of who posts and who doesn't? There would, going by present rates, be about five topics a day. Assuming they all get answered and locked within a day, then that is five active topics on average. It's not hard to track.

And I wasn't really thinking of a ban, more of an edit out or a post delete. Just to show that they aren't allowed to post there, although a ban is a little bit harsh....

As long as moderators keep an eye out, it could work.

Well, this forum is powered by JForum, so alternativa are not the ones doing the coding.... I'd assume it's just a tick-box thing. If it is an option, though, I would love it to be implimented so we get less flood.

Fair enough. Again, I`ve never managed a forum such as this before so I have no idea how it works.

big topic didint read it .. may be when im not busy

And still you felt the need to post?

Prime example of what Skitee did NOT want in this thread. If you had read the first sentence you would know this. There are goofy threads just for fun and there are serious threads where you respect the wishes of the OP. Pointless posting belong in the former.
