AIMING AND CONTROL OF TANK GLITCH

 Share

Recommended Posts

There is some kind of bug regarding the control of the tank.

When using the arrow keys to steer the tank, sometimes a one tap of the key gives a fine movement of the tank.

Sometimes that same tap will turn the tank 90 degrees at onece. Same with the turret controls.

It makes driving a fast tank very difficult to control, and makes fine aiming (movement of the turret) for long range shooting nearly impossible. If you get lined up for a shot, and need to make a fine adjustment of the turret before shooting, the turret moves 90 degrees at once and you are now off target.

Is this error built into the game on purpose? Can you explain this?

Thanks. Installed Firefox and this did fix the control issue, however, Firefox 7.x is not very stable on XP.

Also tried Chrome but it is too slow to play (3-4 FPS).

I will try Chrome on a faster PC with a better GFX card.

Thank you for the advice.

This occurs when the CPU is not fast enough for the chosen resolution/window size, and frame rate is unstable. Turn on the "Adaptive FPS" option in the Tanki settings, it would help.

I am thinking that it is a combination of hardware/browser.

BOX #1 - HP Pentium D with NVidia high end graphics card.

Running Firefox - Good results, but Firefox is glitchy.

Running IE8 - Control instability

In either case, FPS is 10-18. This may be due to my ISP.

BOX #2 Dell P4 with stock graphics card.

Running Chrome - Good graphics, good control, slow FPS.

This may have something to do with my graphics card.

I have a bunch of different hardware laying around.

I will try to optimize my set up and will post results.

Adaptive FPS is set to ON and still slow.

Again, might be my low performance graphics card.

Or, whatever version of FLASH I am running.

FLASH itself is sometimes the problem.

For instance, in FLASH settings I have found that setting "Hardware Acceleration" to on or off can make a big difference alone.

More testing done:

P4 Dell running Chrome

Stock graphics card

high speed DSL

Adaptive FPS set to ON

3-5 FPS

Adaptive FPS set to ON makes it slower.

Biggest speed increase is making the viewport smaller.

Running it in full screen mode makes it VERY slow.

This game is un-playable if FPS is below 10.

Using same connection as the other PC which is faster.

My conclusion so far is that the graphics card makes a very big effect on speed.

All P4s are quite slow despite their relatively high clock frequency.

Adaptive FPS set to ON makes it slower.

Right, but it makes FPS more stable, thus making control behavior somewhat better on slow machines.

Right.

True.

Wrong. The graphics card does not affect the Tanki performance, though a buggy graphics driver can destroy it. And make sure you use 32-bit desktop color depth (not 24, 16, 15, etc.).

Generally, the most important things for obtaining decent FPS in Tanki 1.0 are CPU performance (not its clock speed), viewport size (in pixels, not inches), and memory performance (not its size).
