How to "Custom Make" Paints.

 Share

Recommended Posts

I notice that there are a few people wanting to know how to "Custom Make" paints, and Bruce asked me to create this topic.

1. Download TankViewer here.

2. It is downloaded as a .zip, so press "Extract all Files" from the folder once you've downloaded it.

After this stage, this is the way I do it. I know that others do it differently, but this is my way.

3. I then copied that unzipped folder into somewhere I can locate quickly created a new folder in the folder "data". I called this folder "Added_textures", but you can call it what you want. For sake of simplicity in my instructions, I'd recommend you copy me.

4. In that folder I pasted some images that I wanted to turn into paints. .png and .jpg are all that I tried, but they work just as well for me.

5. Going back to the folder "Tankviewer kd mod DD.MM.YYYY", I opened the file "config.xml" in a text editor. I used Openoffice but microsoft word or even notepad would be just as good.

6. Towards the end you will notice a list of all of the paints, going something like this:

8. Create a new line and type this in, under the list of tanks but above the ":

9. Back to folder "Tankviewer kd mod DD.MM.YYYY" open "TankViewer.swf" on Standalone Flash Player, Firefox or another browser. Standalone Flash Player is my favourite because it is the fastest.

10. Your paint should be up on the Tankviewer!

11. If you like, show it off on the forum, although this has to be stressed: only put it up there if you really, really like it. I'm sure nobody would like to see a flood of useless paints up there. If you put a paint up and nobody likes it, remember that they will assume that you really like it if you post it. If it is clearly ugly, they'll obviously think you've got a dumb taste.

Any problems, questions, issues? Just ask.

Any idea how to start tankviewer on a mac?

The ordinary way? Does that work? I'd assume (having never used a mac though), that .zips and .swfs are workable on mac, and those are the file formats used here.

Yes yes that's good but when i try to open TankViewer that is a SWF file with a browser, it says "do you want to save or open this file?" like if it was donwloading it.

What's wrong? Any solutions?

That was just for creating a separate folder if you just name the file "Colormap_67.jpg and paste it in the same place as the other paints in the data folder and create a corresponding line in the config .xml toward the bottom it should work.

That is exactly what i did, and it did not work.

Are you sure you had the file format exactly right? (.jpg and .jpeg are treated differently) Are you sure you did exactly the correct amount of spacebar/tab presses? Are you sure the filename is exactly correct - it may be case sensitive you know?

the format should be jpg

image should be only named

( colormap_01 )

you cant rename it any thing else and if there's 2 colormap_1 it will cause an error.

You use a different method, so technically that's not helpful. Call it anything you want, as long as the name is the same as what is mentioned in the config.xml.
