Turret elevation and depression

Recommended Posts

This is a topic I've been thinking about, and not at all a duplicate of this thread: http://forum.tankionline.com/posts/list/76677.page

I'm wondering, how can we tell (besides trial and error) whether the opponent tank is hittable with your current weapon? Is there a vertical angle spread of fire, and what is it? I am almost sure different guns also have different vertical angle spread of fire, since I have had many moments where my railgun can not hit an opponent, yet their twins can. What is difference in these angles? And lastly, is there a big difference in the angle if firing from above, or below?

Experience...

I'm sorry, but experience doesn't cut it.

Tanki might as well not tell us the weapon ranges of twins, isida, firebird, freeze and rico, and tell us to leave it to experience. It might as well not tell us the weapon shot rate and tell us to leave it to experience. The angle at which a weapon can shoot is crucial in this game, since there are so many platforms, even more so than, say, the turret speed. I think that something in the weapon description that will tell me to how many degrees up/down that weapon can shoot is crucial to the weapon description.

Ok, So if we tell you the angle at which turrets can shoot in Radians, How will you ever use that? I have yet to see someone use the turning speed information to their advantage. No one remembers their turret or tank's turning speed yet they know how fast it can turn.

U take addmaths?

Radians is a topic which used 2 fry my head but with the ratio method it is easy.

woo-hoo, good responses...personally, being of the 99% out there i think you both have valid points. too much info and aiming imagery just complicates the data stream and get's ignored, but no info as is now leads to piss-poor performance. a simple up/down pointer which would give a reference on a first round miss which you could then adjust would seem like a try to me. as in: oops, miss high, quik glance at the indicator, slap the elev control once, twice (experience here), slap fire and knock that s.o.b. staff sgt off his hi perch. would also make everyone at less of a disadvantaged target when climbing ramps after a bad guy. we've all been prey to those dead zone belly shots trying to climb up and get a bad guy.....let me know what ya'll think

Tanki might as well not tell us the weapon ranges of twins' date=' isida, firebird, freeze and rico, and tell us to leave it to experience.[/quote']

And why not, may I ask? I personally see no problem with that: the numbers don't make a difference to me, all I need is to know which has more range, which I can easily work out from experience, anyway. Just like koolwalky says, no-one cares about the figures of the turret turn speed, yet everyone cares about how fast their turret turns, just nobody bothers with the exact figures.

I never said the numbers should or should not be there. I am merely pointing out the fact that the ranges are there, yet the angles are not, and the angles are just as important.

If putting the angles in the garage creates too much clutter, the devs could always put it in the forum, or make a change in the setting that says "show more weapon stats" or similar.

You have to know the weapon you are using and the map you are playing on. As someone else has said' date=' experience is the key here.[/quote']

agree completly wid addition: u also need intelligence.

Okay then. How about this: give NO weapon stats. Figure everything out yourself, experience will tell that railgun does alot of damage but at low rates, freeze slows enemies down but has a limited range, and ricochet bounces. Experience will tell you that the range limit of railgun is infinity, twins has a very high rate of fire, and Isida can heal.

^Sarcasm obviously. But could anyone please tell me why we havn't been given the angle information. If it were the same for all weapons, that would be ok, but varying angles can change how each weapon is played.

I've noticed that the angles tend to be smaller with longer barrelled weapons while larger with shorter barrelled weapons (exception is ricochet). Is this intentional?

yeah, Aftermath is right. This is a good point to highlight. In fact it is a major concern with the gameplay in Tanki Online.

I have also been wondering how did the angle of elevation and depression differs with different turrets.

Especially when stats for this are not shown, It should be included.

It took me quite some time to realize (based on experience) that higher ground shooting angle of depression works as well with lower ground shooting elevation.

Thanks Aftermath122, I have quickly confirm the experience that I have gained from tank battles.

P.S.: Tanki Online should reward players with some crystals by contributing to the forum at least. :D

Please don't bump old topics :)

Also, as others have said, you wouldn't find the stats very useful anyway. It's something that's down to experience.

And the community here chooses to contribute to the forum, as players want to get to know one another, and have good discussions. Developing your rep on the forum and gaining friends is infinitely more valuable than crystals, IMO - in the long run, you'll be a lot more experienced on the game if you hang out at the forum, and that's reward enough. You could even end up finding yourself a good team or clan here to play together with and develop your skills, or win crystals through contests on the forum, as well as read useful articles on the game in the 'Press' section.
