Music: called the international language by some, noise by others, and a way of life for more still. One way or another, music is here to stay in our culture, and so, the idea of listening to music while playing Tanki was natural to come. However, there are ways to maximize your listening experience, and that is what I plan to get into.

Overview

Before we begin, I would like to mention that a while ago, wrote an article called The Tunes of Your Battle, which interviewed different players on what they liked. I mentioned this so you would not say "You copied that idea! NUG MULT!"

Instead, this article will be looking at how to maximize your experience, not what genre to listen to/what is better; an analysis of how to succeed in something so trivial that it is often overlooked. Yet, every little thing helps when in battle, so take advantage of it.

Pros and Cons

To fully understand how to enjoy your time, it is necessary to take a look at all the good that comes out of it and, unfortunately, the cons that come along with listening to music.

Pros:

  1. Less distractions: By plugging in, you are able to ignore all the goings on of your household. Put those headphones in and watch (or not even notice) as you won't be able to be Disturbed as you turn into an Indestructible master of Tanki. Ignore the howling dog (unless it's a beagle, I know from experience), the parents asking you to do stuff, and just focus on the game ahead.
  2. Greater focus:  Since there are less distractions, you can focus on the game more than before. It is Almost Easy to be Avenged Sevenfold for every time you are destroyed. You have to focus to destroy all the noobs in your way to get to the top of the leader board.
  3. You get to enjoy music: Maybe it is just me, but I have an obsession with music. Any chance I get to listen to listen, I take it up. Even if I'm tying a Slipknot or playing Tanki, listening to music is the Opium of the People. Take every advantage to listen to music as humanly possible.

Cons:

  •  Could be a distraction:   Some people find music helps them focus, while others find it distracting. If you find it distracting, don't listen. If you don't play as well, what is the point in having it on? Just like when Bowling for Soup, you Almost did better, but you don't. :/
  •  Can't hear game sound s: Whether or not you p lay with game sounds "ON", they do help. Whether you want to hear the Gold Box siren or the upcoming Freeze, that is harder to do with music on in the background. It does have the possibility of hurting game-play, you might even need Stitches afterwards. brydoesnotactuallyenjoyorapprovethissongbutitfitinwiththeideaIamgoingforsoplxdon'tblameme.
  • Parentus Angrius: As mentioned above, listening to music makes it hard for you to hear stuff. Hopefully, the dog doesn't need to go out when you have your headphones on, cause you're gonna have to leave and be called a mult. OR your parents get angry at you for ignoring them. If they catch you doing that, you'll find it is Easier to Run to the nearest park, a Linkin Park.

At this point, it is up for you to decide whether or not this is a worthwhile addition to your experience. If "YES", continue reading, if "NO", you might as well continue, you've already spent some time here.

Genres:

Before beginning, I would like to mention that these are not a be all end all. Everyone has different tastes; for example, my parents can not stand the music I listen to, so it took quite a bit of convincing to get a guitar.

Metal:

*Sees Metal. Writes "-1". Closes Tab*

Starting off with controversy, I get it. Like it or not, metal is great for background music. Driving riffs, adrenaline rush, and, in my opinion, amazing guitar work... it's very hard to find better music. This one is very much my opinion, but it is really hard not to get in the zone with Master of Puppets, Nightmare, or any other amazing song out there. Just don't headbang too hard, or it will be a detriment to your playing.  [;)]

Punk Rock (or any other form of Punk)

From The Ramones, to The Offspring, to Sum41, punk rock is, in my opinion, the next best thing to metal. Not quite as heavy, but the driving guitar and blast beating on drums is the perfect thing to get you pumped for playing. Just make sure you have headphones, otherwise your parents might get angry.

EDM:

Though I'm not a personal fan, many others that I know swear by it. A strong beat, the synths, I can see why people love it. A bit more tame compared to the other genres I have mentioned, I would definitely recommend EDM if you can't stand Metal/Punk, which I can understand.

Remember, these are the ones I think are the best, but whatever works for you, I'd stick with it; however, I would not recommend...

Slow Ballads:

Nothing takes you out of the moment like a slow, heart-wrenching ballad of loss and misery. Your pulse slows, adrenaline stops, and everything seems to slow down. One does not simply get hyped when listening to misery. RIP a high placement.

Highly Syncopated Stuff:

If you have to constantly be wondering what the tempo is, it is time to change tracks. It is incredibly hard to get in the necessary grove when you are constantly trying to figure out what the grove is. So try and avoid these, just so you don't get a headache multitasking in a game.

Assorted Tips

Now that you have chosen whether or not to listen and what you do want to listen to, these tips are just for you.

Don't Listen to New Music:

Usually, when you listen to new music, you're focusing on whether or not you like the song/album. If you are focusing on the music instead of the game, your playing will show it. Instead, I would recommend listening to music you already know pretty well, so that you don't feel compelled to determine how much you like said music.

iTunes or Paid Subscription is the way to go (a.k.a. ads suck):

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING takes you out of the moment than some random add popping up on your YouTube mix, Spotify album/mix, or you Pandora radio. In my case, if I'm listening to Rise Against, I don't want to hear an add for some country album that is coming out. You all have had that experience. Shoulders slump, an annoyed scowl crosses your face, and you become angry at the world. So instead of those albums, try iTunes or any other paid subscriptions. iTunes/ paid subscriptions don't have adds, allowing you to fully enjoy your listening experience.

Get that Beat:

A strong, steady beat in your song is highly suggested. Getting a rhythm going and following it, at least for me, is incredibly helpful. You get in a zone and it is rather hard to break concentration, save parentus angrius or the howling beagle. If everything gets syncopated on you, it is hard to get into that groove so important.

Choose Wisely:

Always choose music that you like when playing, but if that one song, that anthem comes up, you care more about the song than the game. Don't be this guy. Your team will hate you, and you are basically useless. So yeah, avoid "those songs". They are different for everyone, so make sure you know your preferences. Fellow metalheads, headbanging is a definitive "NO".

Well, there ya have it. Music can be a great addition to your TO experience and worth your consideration. So put up your "Rock On!" hands and play TO with as much music as you want.

This song is fitting, isn't it?

I always listen to music when playing. I actually play better to some songs- the more into it you are, the better you play. I rarely miss a gold siren, and the lack of game noises are not too consequential. You seem to have left our rap from your list of genres. If the lyrics are good, and it has a good backtrack, it really helps. I use the free version of Spotify, and the ads are not too bad. Most of them are for songs/albums that are Rap, so I rarely get one for Country or Pop.

Here are some songs that are great:

N***** in Paris - Jay Z

Swimming Pools - Kendrick Lamar

Caroline - Anime

This Could Be Us - Rae Stremmurd

3005 - Childish Gambino

King Kunta - Kendrick Lamar

No Church in the Wild - Jay Z

Alright - Kendrick Lamar

Not much of a rap guy (If you can't tell, I'm a metal guy) and I always seem to get some slow pop "hit" coming my way, so lucky you.

Alright, time to bash out on your taste of music disagree politely on metal being your best choice.

Seriously? No, really?

As I quote SOC3 (I hope I'm quoting him, if I'm not that's embarassing) "The point of Tanki is to have fun, not to burst your eardrums because it gives you adrenaline"

Anyways, that's my opinion, here's some Trap/Glitch/EDM songs that are not too heavy (In no particular order):

Marshemello-Alone (10/10 a cool trap song that reaches it's climax a little late)

Tobu and Itro-Cloud 9 (10/10)

Tobu-Candyland (9/10)

Tobu-Colors (7/10)

TheFatRat-Epic (8/10)

TheFatRat-Jackpot (8/10)

TheFatRat ft Laura Brehm-Monody (11/10 best song by far, but not too heavy and adrenaline)

Vexento-Masked Heroes (6/10, a little low mainly because of the way too much syncopation)

And here's where to skip ahead but I suggest listening to the introes:

Marshmello Alone at 0:33

Tobu and Itro Cloud 9 at 0:00

Tobu Candyland at 0:00

Tobu Colors at 0:00

TheFatRat Epic at 0:00

TheFatRat Jackpot at 0:00

TheFatRat ft Laura Brehm Monody at about 0:40

Vexento Masked Heroes at 0:00

Artists:

Alan Walker

TheFatRat

Tobu

You don't need to like it, but I don't enjoy trap at all, so can we agree to disagree?
