Railgun doesnt really have a special ability, however it is one of the 'best' turrets these days. The only other ones i can think of are high damage, and it looks cool when your shot is charging up ;D.

Mostly depends on ur playing style. After rebalance, shaft is only good in huge maps like lost temple. It gets underpowered in other maps. As there are not many large maps that get played, railgun would be the wise choice.
