[Issue 16] hithere1: Defending and Capturing in Style

This guide was written by hithere1, one of the newly hired reporters. Enjoy your read, and be sure to welcome him warmly. How to become a successful defender Have you ever wondered why defending is such a dreary dull job? Obviously defending is demanding if you stay at the same place and do nothing entertaining in the battle. Many people would believe that defending is boring and simple, but in my opinion they are wrong. Most people just defend when they have a feeling that they will lose or when a group of enemies are coming to attack their base. This is the simplest definition of “defending” in tankionline, and most tank men and tank women have not yet discovered the reality of defending. Once you have read this article you will start to implement these vital aspects of defending. Being a defender is like being the special one. As mentioned before, people just defend because they don’t want to lose. For some people like me, defending gets boring if I hide behind a building and wait all day getting ready to pounce at the enemy attacking my flag. Defenders control the battle; this is a good thing because their sneaky style of play can influence others to change their tactics every time. When the red team is winning 2-0 and the blue team wants to attack, the defender on the blue team is the one who is responsible to not let anyone passed to allow anymore flags to be captured by the enemy. For this to succeed he needs to be determined. If this succeeds and the blue team wins the battle, then you would get your reward back, plus you would be congratulated and therefore encouraged to excel in the next battles. As stated before, to become a defender you need to be entertaining. You need to learn to trick your enemy, and to create tension for the attackers attacking your base. Defenders have the best role in the battle, they can grasp when the enemy is coming and therefore dictate to the team what to do and when to take action! Wouldn't you love to be the mastermind of the battle? In most battles I join, everyone is attacking and they are doing their own thing. I don’t see many defenders because I don’t think they can master the map inside out. Nevertheless, smart tank men who use mammoth are the ones who defend and lead the team to victory. However defending with mammoth is not the greatest. In open maps like: kungur, osa and red alert, mammoth is genuinely not good enough to dominate and conquer the map. Mammoth is slow and insecure in large maps. What would you do if u had mammoth and freeze and a wasp stole your precious flag? from time to time I see several defenders inactive, they just wait tirelessly behind a building and when they turn the head away from the computer-little that they know an opponent has captured our flag! this has happened so many times and annoys me, this is why defending is the most significant role to win a battle. 5 tips to become the best defender 1 better safe than sorry – before you join a battle and spawn, make sure that the enemy doesn't see you floating around. he will know where you are and he will spy on you. Verify that you are not seen looking for a place to hide and seize when your time will come. 2 always talk to your team - this will ensure safety with each other. You will then be able to follow each other like a pack of lions when you want to counter attack. If you want to be the last man defending the base, clarify your strategies before you set off. The best communication skills will lead to a successful team. Remember, there is no “I” in “team”! 3 move around constantly - if you stay at the same place for the entire battle, then evidently your enemy will know where you are situated, nowadays people are sly and clever and they will change route to steal your flag. We all have witnessed the amount of times the enemy changes their route, so we should move around and spy the enemy. 4 use a long ranged weapon - such as rail gun, smoky and thunder. This will help you in tip number 3 because you can move and shoot continuously whilst frustrating the enemy. With short ranged weapons, you can only stay at one place to defend because if there is a huge distance between yourself and the enemy; you would know that there is trouble. 5 choose the right hull - in my opinion a fast hull is good at defending. You must be reading this and assuming that I am mistaken, but depend on me and you will see the outcome! If you see a Viking with nitro taking your flag what will you do? What will you do if you have a slow hull? There is no chance of you catching him up and killing him before he captures your flag. This is why you should choose a light hull such as hornet or wasp. You can easily outpace a medium hull with your skills whilst applying tip number 3 and 4. Thank you for spending your time reading this. I hope you learnt something new and I wish you apply it and try it out in a battle. See you in the battle! How to capture the flag in style Every single battle I see countless people going for the flag and they always fail. They tend to go alone and use their supplies. Most of the time it fails if they are a playing without team work. This frustrates me because of the lack of support inputting from the team. Hopefully once you have read this article you will have awareness about playing as a team to capture the flag. You may be aware that capturing the flag by yourself is a huge burden. This is why having friends in the battle with you will help you all the time. Make sure you have friends who can help you in all your battles you play, otherwise it would be challenging to go for the enemy flag. Whilst in a battle you need to be as sly as a fox. You require good skills to be able to win all the time. It is necessary to know where each flag is based in each map; this would be easier for you and your team to figure out routes to follow. Before you attempt to steal the enemy flag ensure that you have seen the majority of the enemy team, this is essential because you will be able to distinguish who is who and where they are mainly situated in the map. The cleverer you are the more sufficient it would be for you to lead your team in any battle. After distinguishing the enemy team, start to test the enemy because the more you test them, the more agitated they get and they start to play by them self and not as a team. An example of testing them is – by counter attacking whilst dropping back and helping the defense. The reason why this is a good example is due to them not knowing what type of style of play you will apply next, because you are multitasking and baffling the enemy. As mentioned before, the cleverer you are the more sufficient you will be as a team leader. Steps to capture the flag (Kungur) Step1 - assemble your team into groups of 2, your partner will follow you all the time, he will offer you support and protect you in all the steps you take! Have 3 groups of attackers and 2 groups of defenders. However there are groups of defenders, 1 group will offer support and boost the fellowship of teamwork. Step2 – balance the map out with equal numbers of players on each side. Because kungur has a maximum of 10 players on each side, 6 players on 1 side and 4 on the other would be efficient. The 4 players should reside in the strongest section to defend in because there would be less pressure for them to lose the flag. Furthermore, in each side there should be a pair of defenders. 1 player from each pair will support the attackers when needed. This will increase the chance of getting the enemy flag and capturing the flag in style! Step3 – start the attack; ensure there is at least an isida attacking with the team. It is vital that there is an isida. They are the best attackers ever known in tanki online! 1 pair should attack from one side and another from the opposite side. Then the third attacking pair should go through the middle part of the map. The more area you cover whilst attacking, the less space the enemy will have to recover. Once the flag is nearly taken, orders should be made to ensure that 1 player from each defending pair should offer support in case the enemy flag is lost. Step4 – let the isida follow the player with the flag, however it is better if you escape as a group. However the long range weapons should be the ones who are escaping with the flag. The short range weapons should be the ones called the “distracters”. A distracter is the person who keeps the enemies attention off their flag, for example – they could be killing the enemy at the same time, or driving further into the enemies base, or even driving into a guy who is re-spawning but he has to make sure he doesn't spawn! The extra distracters, the quicker the flag will be captured due to the enemy being confused in what to do, i.e “trying” to return the flag or to kill the distracters. Sooner or later, the flag will be captured and you will quote – “how to capture the flag in style”… blue arrows = attackers red crosses = defenders yellow arrows = defenders who offer support to attackers Thank you for taking your time in reading this, I hope it paid off. Next time you join battles apply these strategies and see if it works, see you in the battle!

[Issue 16] If Drugs Were Illegal, Segment 4: The Realization

...Previously June 18th, 2013 I haven't taken the time to write for a few days, so, as you can see, nothing much of any real importance has happened. It was dumb of me to think that update 161 would be anything cool--the devs almost always give prior notice before releasing any big updates, and this time they didn't, so of course it was only some technical stuff and bug fixes. So my past two days have been kind of boring, and even Tanki is starting to bore me; I'm getting tired of using Isida all the time. Maybe I should buy a new weapon? But, nah, I guess I shouldn't, 'cause I have just about enough crystals saved up to upgrade to M2 and I only need a day or two more to earn the rest. For now, I'll just have to be patient. June 19th, 2013 Mom is saying I spend too much time with Tanki (See what writing this journal for you has done to me, Miss Reynolds?) and that I should find something else to do with my time. I really don't see what else I could be doing though. All of my good friends have gone on vacation and won't be back for a long time, and it's so hot here that you just want to lie around and do nothing (As you know, it's impossible to think on hot days, Miss Reynolds, so if we ever have a test on a hot day, would you be willing to overlook my bad score?). Even writing this journal requires all my concentration, and the more I write, the lazier I feel, so I'm going to play Tanki now. June 20th, 2013 It's Edward again, and I got Isida M2! :D It's so powerful, and totally fun to play with again! I'm still using drugs, and with Isida, I'm nearly unkillable. Haha! My granny is coming to visit from Russia soon (Yeah, she lives there, which is super awesome!). I think she gets here tomorrow, but I'm not absolutely sure. She usually visits us every six months, and unfortunately, whenever she does, it seems that I am her single source of entertainment. Last time she was here, granny kept me busy around the clock, and if it's the same this visit, I might not have much time to be playing or writing anything. Speaking of granny, she's actually the one through whom I first found out about Tanki, and in a really strange way too. She was talking about something 'back home' in Russia, about the army, or something (I can't exactly remember), but it's not important. Anyway, she wanted to show me a picture of some kind of Soviet Russian tank, so she had me google (Granny isn't what one could call computer savvy) the word "танк" (I guess it means tank in Russian) for her. Now, of course, since tank is a simple word, there were pages upon pages of results. After only a moment of looking we gave up (If granny has any fault, it is her impatience), but the very second search result had caught my eye: Tanki Online--Free MMO Game. I had been searching for a new video game for weeks, and this finally looked like something cool, so I made a mental note (Which I actually wrote down later) not to forget about it. Which, as you probably guessed, is exactly what I did. So it was only later, when I saw Martin playing that I actually remembered and signed up myself. I'm just sad that I didn't do it earlier, because I could probably have already been a Colonel by now. June 22nd, 2013 My granny... Well, to say the least, she's great at keeping me busy. Yesterday she talked my leg off for FOUR straight hours, and whenever I stood up, making excuses to leave, she just pulled me on the arm, saying "Now wait a minute!" Four hours passed, without her taking any notice! I mean, yeah, of course I love talking with granny, but FOUR hours straight?!? And I wasn't even able to play Tanki at all! I'm just glad that this is summer vacation, 'cause otherwise I'd have to be doing my h/w as well, and then I'd have no time for anything. But thankfully, today granny is off with mom and dad touring the city (I don't see how that's interesting--it's not like we're a tourist town), so I can just be alone and I don't have to talk to anyone. Plus, I can play Tanki all I want, and nobody will be the wiser! Okay, so today I checked the forum, and guess what?!? There's going to be another mystery update soon (hopefully not something as crazy as the last one). From what I understood (Which wasn't much, because it was one of those tl;dr topics), they're going to actually announce what the update is tomorrow or the day after. So I've got some time. I really hope it isn't a fix of the drug bug... If it is, I'll be a weak tank once again... and I'm not a very good player... For now, I'll go pwn some tanks with my Isida M2! Hah, they can't stand up to the mighty power of drugs. Hope I can catch a gold! June 23rd, 2013 The update I wrote about was announced today! And guess what! It's the friends system! WOOHOO! I checked the forum as soon as I got up--and there it was. I've been waiting so long for this update (I just forgot to write it down here) that I basically jumped into the air for joy! Plus, it WASN'T an update fixing the drug bug, so I can still drug and be awesome! The friends system announcement topic looked really weird though. I'm not sure what was wrong with it... Hahaha, maybe something was wrong with the formatting! Poor developers. Oh, and by the way, granny is gone--she only stayed a couple of days--and now she is off to visit her other grandchildren, who live way over on the other side of The States. I think that she'll be back before she goes to Russia though, because right before she left, I overheard her talking to my parents, when she didn't think that I was listening (I do it on purpose sometimes--you never know what good tidbits of information you can get!). Anyway, she was telling them about some kind of surprise she had for me when she came back on her way to Russia. I wonder what it is? Hopefully a good one. But that's not related to Tanki, and you don't care about it anyway. June 24th, 2013 It's Edward again, and I think I figured out what was wierd about the update announcement topic! It had a secret message! Now I know that that may sound strange, but today in school we were learning about people sending secret messages during wars, and it just seemed like such a logical idea! I mean, why else would the text be so weird? And the way they wrote everything, well, to say the least, it certainly could have been written a lot more simply! I'm sure I'm right about this one. It's not like I always come up with crazy ideas like this... well, actually, maybe I do, but that's beside the point. I'm gonna work until I decipher this code! Finally something interesting in my life! June 25th, 2013 Guess what? I'm going to Russia!!! For a whole month! So granny came back today. The surprise she had talked about was definitely a surprise, even though I was expecting it... As you probably already guessed, she wants to take me back to Russia with her! When she first asked me, I didn't want to go, and I was like "No way!" But now I'm beginning to like the idea quite a bit. Russia is the homeland of Tanki after all, and it just so happens that granny lives near Perm! (Tanki online HQ) I seriously doubted that my parents would allow it, but it was just the opposite--they wanted, and even urged me to go! So I guess I'm off to Russia, the homeland of Tanki online! And thanks to this game, I know a few words of the language, like нуб, флаг, and нара, so I should be able to communicate pretty well! I can't wait!! Tanki, here I come! I was looking at that secret message today, but I haven't managed to decipher the code yet. I'll print it out and take it to Russia with me. Hopefully I can figure it out there. Granny bought plane tickets before even asking me about it (she's impulsive like that), so we leave tomorrow. I'll really have to hurry if I want to get packed in time. I wonder what I'll need? Russia is probably pretty cold. I'll go ask granny. June 26th, 2013. I discovered the message! I know what it is now! You won't believe it! I can't write it all down at the moment, because I have to leave for the airport--granny is calling me this very instant. I'll finish when I get to Russia. All I can say for now is that it's crazy, and I can hardly believe it myself! Edward over and out.
