Just curious. What battles and game duration are most profitable to get a good xp crystals ratio?

If I know that there is a shaft waiting for me I don't actually rotate my camera view and see if he is moving his turret meaning he is probably not in his scope mode. Instead I listen for that characteristic high pitched sound which is heard when the shaft fires.And then I come out of cover and attack him! However a shaftsman can easily prevent others from figuring that out by pressing pause 'P' key when in scope mode so that the sound is'nt heard. Don't know if this is common knowledge but anyways..
