While it does require basic Photoshop skill, making the background by oneself requires more time, experience, and more creativity. Not only that, but here on this forum credit is seldom given to the real makers of the artwork. And as shade said, in most images posted here the background makes up the majority of the artwork, and that is the part which the forum member did not make.

A new graphic card would work better then a new computer (GPU render is 4-5 times faster then CPU render)
