Remember that not everyone is in your position. Probably you want to win crystals at the same time you win xp but there are buyers in this game and they only need to win xp because they have the crystals already. And yes, in long battles you win xp even if you're on the losing side (unless you're playing really bad). There's also that persons that got a lot of points and even on the losing side they will win a nice amount of crystals. Of course that there's also that epic games where you're winning 2-13 with the max flags in 15 and the other team wins 15-13 and, in that case the winning team still have some hope so they stay until the end. Hope i helped you understanding :)
