Well, if XP is your thing then go for it! As the for only one turret... Smoky on M3 doesn't need MU's to compete. But, it's nice to have. Thunder, however, needs MU's to compete. But hey, the decision is yours to make. :)

Well, that's a tough question. Depends on maps you play, too.

Prodigi, Smoky M3, Thunder M3, and Hunter. Trust me, you will not me disappointed. ;)
