All right I'll be making an article on everything there is about defending. Tanki Online Wiki Developers can add pictures if they want to because I cannot as my laptop can't do that properly. Everything You Need To Know About Defending So, we are all familiar with defending the flag in Tanki Online. Not to be confused with the so-called "camping", it really is important to the outcome of a battle and is a technique that is necessary to win one as an addition to attacking. However, sometimes you have to defend solo as most of your teammates are attacking. What is defending? Defending is the "art" of protecting your flag from enemies and not letting them obtain it and/or get too far with it and/or capture it. It is essential in every CTF battle that a team has a stable defense that can very rarely, if EVER broken. You should obtain constant communication with other defenders and be spread out throughout the map. Defending As A Team What Should I Use To Defend? First off, in a basic map with about 10 team members, there should be about 4 or 5 defenders in the base at a time. Your tank's speed, health and damage dealt to others will be important as well. I recommend the best 5 defense turrets: freeze, twins, railgun, hammer and isida, and the best defense hulls: wasp, hunter, viking, titan and mammoth. Surprised? Yes I was as well when I discovered that the turret isida and the hull wasp were good for defense (of course not very effective when paired together). The reason for this is this: instead of fighting over a predictable drop health zone, or waste your health supply, why not get assistance from a friendly isida? I recommend putting the isida on a viking and this will be very convenient especially when there are multiple enemies entering your base because the tank the isida is healing will literally have double health and with an armor, quadruple health, and with a good paint against the enemy's main attacker, about 6 times your usual health! Imagine a mammoth m3 with 3000 health against the enemy's main attacker just sitting on your flag! Talk about OP defense! And then there is wasp. I was even more surprised when i found out it was good for defending. It is probably not good in mid-ranged maps but in large maps like Superhouv, you really need a fast hull with not too much drift and control. This is because the if an enemy somehow steals your flag, you will need a fast hull to keep up with him and annihilate him! I recommend putting a freeze on wasp. The maximum amount of wasps you should have in your defense is 1. In my opinion, the best defense combos would be a twins mammoth on the flag with an isida viking nearby, and a freeze wasp on the edge of your base hiding and maybe a hammer titan as well. A railgun hunter (AKA Semyon Kirov :P) would be helpful as well for long-ranged support. How to defend? I covered some of this in "What Should I Use To Defend?" but here it is more clearly shown. You should always have a fast defender at the go ready to take on any attacker that escapes. You should also have long ranged support and someone that protects the flag solidly (by blocking enemy attackers from touching it) and a healer so your defense is never low on health. Remember, it is important that your defense is never cramped into one place, it should be varied and spread out (not too much). Some should be out in the open and some under cover. What To Do If The Flag Has Been Taken? This is the job for the long ranged supporter and the freeze. The isida can help out as well. The isida and freeze should go after the enemy quickly and deal as much damage as possible and slow the enemy down too. Meanwhile, the railgun can do different things. It can run ahead and take the enemy flag like an attacker (if it hasn't already been taken by your good attacking teammates) or, if it has already been taken, try to intercept the enemy or wait in ambush. Try to get at least 1 shot on the enemy who has your flag while the freeze and isida are damaging and slowing him. Keep in mind that if he gets into his base, it will be a lot harder to return your flag. Defending Solo What Should I Use To Defend/ How to defend? Well, because all your teammates have supposedly abandoned you, you will need a fast hull with enough health, maybe a hunter, and a freeze to slow enemies down while dealing damage. Mines would also be of great help to a solo defender, especially if you are dealing with a "drugger". You could alternatively use a much more health-based hull with still enough speed (may need to add a nitro), possible a dictator, with a long ranged gun that deals massive damage, like railgun. A dictator railgun would be especially useful for solo defending for 4 main reasons: it has unlimited range, it has the power and health to sit on the flag and push others away, you can deal damage to multiple enemies especially if there is an isida behind the enemy attacking you, and the height of the dictator with the force of the railgun work together in sync to shoot enemy turrets, thus flipping them or temporarily "disabling them" so you can deal with multiple enemies at once. Remain in cover but once you see an enemy get near your flag, sit on the flag and destroy them. What To Do If The Flag Has Been Taken? Well, if you are the only defender on your team, I would presume their flag would be taken too (90% of your team is attacking) so the best choice would be to go straight after the enemy and destroy him before he gets into his base. I don't think your teammates would be that ridiculous as to let you go after the enemy alone, so you should receive help soon after your flag is taken. Picasso Can Be A Tanker Too Picasso's whole team gave up, and he was nearing that ambiance of hopelessness as well, but nonetheless he strode on with humility and determination. He was literally 5 meters away from the flag, with 10 seconds left on the clock, and a score of 13-13. He noticed hes old rival Prodigi on the bridge, and wondered if he could really make it. For once, his team was supporting and him on in anticipation. He drove up the ramp, willing his hornet m3 to do him good. While he was in the air for a second, he brought to mind, "How in @Godmode_ON's sake did I let things come to this?" However, luck was on his side. The shot from Prodigi missed him by centimeters, and never again, capture or no capture, would he let a situation get like this again. It was.......A CAPTURE!!!!!! The timer ended seconds after. Picasso was rewarded not just with 10000 crystals, but with the knowledge and lesson learnt from this plight in Kungur. THE END
