Review [Issue 63] ⏪ Rewind: The Gold Box Supply
Hex replied to Hex in [Issue 63] ⏪ Rewind: The Gold Box Supply Newspaper Archive
The Gold Box Supply was released on 29th July, 2016, along with the DM Tournaments. Skip the tourneys, lets bring the supply into view. In a nutshell, the journey since then to now, was STUNNING. There were a lot of amazing moments - where everything from records to new secrets were found - to the most number of bans made together in history. Ladies and gentletanks, I bring you... *dramatic drum roll* the Gold Box supply. _________________________________________________________________________________________ The First Moments: Upon the initial release, the reaction was somewhat unusual. I think that people didn't take in that 'fun factor' and that they weren't aware of the fact that this supply meant strategic use - which, they found out later about. Everyday, 24/7, there were massive floods in the chats, entirely on the subject of Tanki wanting money, the reason of which was tongued as funds for bills, payments etc. by many. This resulted in huge complications, which led to the appearance of ostriches, termination of lobby chat, which further resulted in difficulty, snags and anger. What really happened is that the people took the matter as a literal calamity. Then, media took over, which resulted in everyone coming back to their senses. Everyone must've realized is that this supply was not much of a money sucker, but something that is money itself, fame and respect. Literally, you can write 'Ready?' in the chat and there you go: INSTANT FAME. Truthfulness is another thing, but hey. What's Happened Since? Since last year's July, as I already said, the journey was both amazing and stunning (#synonyms101). The period from the first release to about the starting of August was based on strict critique and negative votes, mainly based around Tanki wanting money, funds, Tanki being greedy, the prices of these were a bit too much and so on. Then, in August, the supply began to show its true colors. It not only helped in projects where it would've been damn near impossible to achieve the desired results; for instance, the Gold Box Drop Zones project. Who would've thought that this supply was coming, and then they would just drop some Golds to identify the drop zones of some maps. The biggest discovery in this category was the complete identification of Madness' drop zones, totaling somewhere around a good fifty to sixty. The record for the worlds biggest Save The Gold was also broken by the same person. The discovery and the insane record was published on August 7th, 2016, by none other than FIREFOX_IT and 123egypt123. Take a look at that madness people. September passed by with the passing of more bans, arising of the new provocation rules and you guessed it, more gold rains. Everybody got the thrill of it and thus, more and more people started to buy and drop Golds. With the arrival of October came Halloween. At first, it was just a new map, some sales, new paints, the Video of the Week winning, most epic gold take I've ever seen and even more importantly, the breaking of a secret no one was ever expecting. Now, the developers didn't even tell us about this, which leads me to believe that this was a well-planned secret - yes, the pumpkin-shaped Gold Box drop zones of the 2016 Halloween map. Courtesy goes to Vegas, who helped in defying the odds and making that shape come to life. Here's the video. Now that I've credited the biggest of droppers covered the history, let's move on to the actual parts of the article. General Qualities of the Supply: Picked up here are a few points worthy of noting: The supply is only available for purchase in the Shop, but can and has appeared in Daily Missions in numbers from the minimal being 1 to the maximum (known) being 83. The supply can only be purchased after one reaches the rank of Warrant Officer 1. The supply can be used by pressing the '6' key. Using it will not lock any other supply into the cool-down phase. After the supply has been used, a normal, 1000 crystal Gold Box drops after exactly thirty seconds. The Gold Box dropped by any person will stay normal, in its golden tinge, even in special occasions and celebrations. Currently, there is no way to 'lock' the supply so that it doesn't gets subjected to accidental dropping. However, with the release of customized controls, you can now change the key to drop a Gold box. The Pros and Cons: Except fame, money and all that, the only advantage of this supply is... distraction. You all have read a guide on mastering deception and distraction, so if your aim is to making them think, or be unpredictable, the Gold box supply is the jack-of-all-trades. Here is a strategic way you can trick your enemies using this supply: Of course, you would need to buy/collect this supply type from either the Shop, or the Daily Missions. Very important step *input not-amused-but-sarcastic-clap here* Now, lets suppose you are losing by two or three flags, some number of points or kills. You have only minutes until the battle ends and you lose the pile-up of crystals generating in the battle fund. Drop a Gold box with your name enabled and wait for a few seconds. Rock full supplies and enter the enemy base for flags or points. The scenario will likely be everyone piling up over the drop zone while you skim through the enemy base with no one to deal with. If its a DM or a TDM battle, change to Striker before dropping the Gold box. After you do drop it, find the drop zone and camp somewhere near it. Start locking onto someone just when the Gold box starts to drop. If lucky, you will shoot the complete pileup and gain multiple kills. If there aren't some heavy M4s present, it will also become possible for you to actually take the Gold, since everyone would've died. Other than that, it has become very easy to host Save The Golds. Previously, you would've to fight for the Gold box to finally drop, and battles like these continued on and on for hours. Now, you could drop a Gold and start mining immediately. As for the cons: In the above said strategy, intelligent enemy tankers will not leave their positions even if the Gold drops. They value the fund more than the Gold, which will likely make your deceiving plan come to a miserable fail. In the exact opposite, it is also likely that your team too, will get distracted by the Gold box. There would be no one to support you in the enemy base. Topping this with the above point will result in a waste of money. Gold Events: Save The Gold - [sTG] This event, or format, or style of play if you will, is generally well known throughout the communities and has been an old tradition, probably invented around in 2014-5. I don't really know, the oldest video I could find is this, published on May 3rd, 2015. General Overview:So basically, the previous method of organizing a STG was the popular Fire-Wasp method, in small-medium maps. This method was fast, effective and efficient, as the battle fund grew quickly. This fast increase increased the chances of a Gold Box dropping. As soon as the Gold Box would drop, players would then decide teams. The attackers would mult around whilst the defenders would start to mine around the drop zone. One, or two heavy defenders 'glitched' through the Gold so taking it wasn't so easy. When the Gold Box supply was released, things changed. For $1, you could now organize a STG in big-huge maps in minutes and have them go on and on... Event Type:Teamed - one team defends the Gold, one team tries to take it Special Notes:1.) Regarding battle fund: o the general rule is that it should be given to the defenders, since their supply usage is always higher than the attackers. 2.) Regarding the Gold Box: o The Gold Box may be dropped before you have mined or after you have mined the spot. This is only applicable in maps where there is only one drop zone, such as Edinburgh. o In organized events - if there are two or more Gold Boxes being saved, the person who takes the first Gold Box leaves immediately, to allow other players to join in on the fun, and so on. 3.) Regarding restrictions: o In a small-medium map (Edinburgh, Farm, Canyon etc), long ranged turrets aren't allowed, the likes of Railgun, Shaft and Striker. [Optional rule] o The hulls Hunter, Viking, Dictator, Titan and Mammoth are also not allowed. If the STG is still active for more than 15-20 minutes, the medium hulls can be equipped. [Optional rule] o Double Damage is prohibited. [Optional rule] o Killing defenders in the starting 15 minutes is prohibited [Optional rule] o The module Spider S-A is prohibited, however, any other module is allowed. [Optional rule] Gold Skills - [Gold Skills] This is an interesting as well as a fun thing to do if you have suitable equipment. Not only it involves a specific set of skills like timing, jump control and driving, it also requires an extra 'teammate', plus some good knowledge of maps. General Overview:The name says it all - you have to take the Gold Box while its dropping by any 'skill move'. It can be OMP, another person helping you or by some other means. For instance, a Hammer-Viking can launch a Thunder-Wasp miles into the air, and if trajectory is controlled, that Wasp will fly through the Gold. Gold Boxes are often dropped one-by-one, with teams of two fighting to the Gold Box. If all fail and the Gold Box touches the ground, its free-for-all. Event Type:Tandem - two against other two's. Special Notes:1.) Regarding Gold Boxes: o Gold Boxes are to be taken by any skill move when they start to drop. o If everyone missed the Gold Box, the mode immediately changes from 'Gold Skills' to 'Free-For-All' 2.) Regarding teammate: o The 'teammate', the person who helps you take the Gold Box, can have any turret, hull and other equipment. o There can be only one teammate. 3.) Regarding restrictions: o Killing others is prohibited until the Gold Box touches the ground. o Pushing or disturbing others positioned teammates is prohibited. Flip Me For Gold - [FMFG] FMFG is also an interesting and fun event, which was invented after the Gold Box supply was released. In fact, it is only possible if you have the supply. Open and wide maps with a few ups and downs work perfectly to host this event. General Overview:This is pretty self-explanatory. All you have to do is flip the tanker hosting the event. Event Type:One-against-all - the aim is to flip the tanker hosting the event. Special Notes:1.) Regarding the host: o Your objective is to flip the host, not to kill him/her. Race For Gold - [RFG] There are many types of variations of this event, which was also invented after the Gold Box supply was released. An important thing to note is that the lesser the people partaking, the more interesting things become. Big and huge maps work best to host this event. General Overview:A popular way to host this event is to have everyone to equip Mammoth and an energy-based turret on the map Madness. You start way up at the top. Once everyone gathers, a Gold Box is dropped and everyone races for it. The flipping makes a wild contribution to the fun factor, but what really makes it interesting is the adrenaline. Six-seven people, one Gold, fifty plus drop zones, who doesn't want this? Event Type:Free-For-All - get the Gold Box before anyone else. Special Notes:1.) Regarding the preparation/starting period: o Everyone has the same hull. but can have different turrets as of their choice. o Once everyone gathers at the top, it's the host's call to start the event by dropping a Gold Box. 2.) Regarding restrictions: o Killing is actually allowed - you can kill anyone if you wish. [Optional rule] o Use of supplies is allowed, even a Double Power and some mines. GodMode_ON Event/Kill Me For Gold - [GodMode_ON/KMFG] This is one of the most sought-after events in the range of events related to Gold Boxes. The fact that it directly resembles the mysterious GodMode_ON's way of dropping some Golds when killed doesn't help lower its popularity at ALL. Compare this to a STG, and the number of supplies used in that event is nothing compared to a GodMode_ON event. General Overview:This event is based around GodMode_ON - in fact, it was invented being inspired from him/her. The main task is to kill the person hosting the event. That one person can spam supplies to their satisfaction - you can too, but killing him is your real job. The more the players, the quickly the event will be over, but if the number's too low, it wont end at all. after the person has been successfully dealt with, any number of Gold Boxes are dropped (by the same person). Event Type:One-against-all - the aim is to kill the tanker hosting the event. Special Notes:1.) Regarding mode: o This event is impossible without 'Parkour mode' and also if you don't have some decent equipment. 2.) Regarding restrictions: o You can use your your supplies to the extent - be it mines, armors or boosts. o Any type of equipment is allowed. So, as long as everyone isn't Twins-Wasp, you're good. Raining Golds! 'Raining' Gold Boxes in Tanki Online simply means dropping them on and on, even for hours at a time. In the start, everyone wanted to give this a try and so, the chats were blooming with 'ready?', 'map?', 'gold rain come' and other phrases associated with dropping Gold Boxes - not to mention the infamous 'gold admin pls' or 'gold bil admin?'. The period of the so-thought 'admins' ended and normal, everyday players substituted for their positions. With people begging for Golds everyday, it was chaos, to be honest. And, for the record, I did take some measures to join such battles - like, who doesn't want a few extra crystals? Whether you're hosting a drop event, or merely joining one for fun, make sure to check the following, that is, if you want to be successful: First and foremost, you should follow Shedinja's map relativity laws. These are three in number, but the most important ones, the first two, state: In relation to the map's size, the power of the turret varies directly; and reliability of the hull varies inversely. Meaning? The bigger the map, the smaller your hull and longer-ranged your turret should be. The smaller the map, the bigger the the hull and shorter-ranged your turret should be. Do note that these rule do have some exceptions. With the right combination, your success percentage should rise up a lot. To rise it up even farther, grab some supplies; a few bits of extra health wont do anything bad. Next up, timing. Timing is essentially important. You don't want to soar through the sky towards the dropping Gold only to find out it was taken by another laggy Dictator. Time your jump, your angle or fire and you should be able to grab the Gold. You can also a bit of help from other tankers or your friends. Either its a small jump or some skilled move, getting the Gold is the most important part, if you really want to take it, that is. So, if it's the biggest Gold rain, an event or any random Gold, you should go for the Gold, soar through the air and eventually take it. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Half a year later, I still find the Gold Box supply worth buying, not because of just fame and happiness, but also because of the fact that how much easier organizing a Gold-related event has become. What do you think? Share your thoughts below! In the meantime, be sure to look out for more such articles in the Newspaper. This is Pdox, out. ✯ DestroyerPdox ✯- 10 replies

Approved. Edits: Lots and lots of grammar - please note that all turrets, hulls, paints, modules, supplies and modes (etc.) are proper nouns and thus, should start with a capital letter. General rephrasing - seems like you mix up sentences. Spend more time on proofreading, or be careful when writing the article. Rainbows - you are a relatively new writer, which is why I think you liked to use different colors to explain the stuff going on. Actually, it just makes it a bit hard. Keep it clean, use colors and fonts for headings/sub-headings only (exception for a few cases...) One more point to note is that there is almost no camouflage in such a small map. If I were to equip a paint the color of which was literally exact of the dust/rust/walls there, I would still be pretty much all but visible. With that said, welcome to the club!

Patch Update #430 - New Striker turret, new Alterations and decorations

What do you mean? I was 71/4 and then 86/5 with it in Madness. -
^ Yes, I agree. Comic Sans MS looks very childish, it lowers your articles professionalism by A LOT.

We decided to let other available (at the time) Reporters to scan the AWC for their choice and I'm pretty sure Shed made a great choice, considering how much of a technical guy he is.

What are the odds you actually log out after posting this...

Noise CTF No-Supply Battle Gold Box: Knew it had a big chance of dropping in our base/middle, so just waited at the top. Once it started to drop, went flying and took it. Had to turn off graphics cuz there were a hell lotta Fire/Freezes and were causing lag.
