Unlocking them at different levels gives players something to look forward to as they progress through the ranks. Having everything unlock at once would mean that you probably wont be able to afford them and by the time you saved enough crystals you'd be too far ahead in rank and the weapons would be too weak. In the example you gave Firebird is 7k because it unlocks at a very early Master Sergeant rank while Thunder unlocks at a much later Warrant Officer 1 hence the extra cost. There are other factors that go into unlock rank and cost but its mostly about giving players things to look forward to as they progress.

Main reason is to have new players get used to the MM system like in most other games. I do agree that WO1 is perhaps too high but we dont have any news of developers changing it too soon.

Considering most helper groups don't work across communities and don't speak each other's languages; its to be expected. Everyone has their own way of working and finding what is most efficient for them.

They never mentioned a limit as to how many ranks can be in a battle, I've no doubt there is one but no idea what it is.

It was talked about in a V-Log sometime ago which I cannot find, its possible that it has been completely changed now. Essentially, the system will first try to find players of the same rank as you are, if it cannot find enough it will expand the search to 3 ranks, one above your and one below yours and so on. Bear in mind rank isn't the only thing that goes into finding players nobody really knows the exact details of how MM works since developers have released them.

Certain changes are not considered to be of enough interest to warrant a full announcement.
