No. Its not useful, you can occasionally check the friends list to see who is online. Is it really so important that you immediately know which of your friends is online? I think not. Many players (not all) have close friends at Skype, but also totaly unknown people at friends list. And yes it would be annoying getting so many notifications. PS: I've noticed that every third topic in I&S section contains "We can turn on/off this in settings". There's already a lot of stuff in Settings, we don't need a bunch of new options.
