[Issue 76] Editorials: 10 Traits of a Successful Duelist

Introduction Hello readers, and welcome to a brand-new guide. During this guide, I will be talking about the traits needed in order to be a successful duelist and speaking to a pro about his journey to success and what advice he has for future duelists. So without further ado, let's start! 10. Designing your Duelist Page When you first open your duelist page, you want it to look neat and attractive. Therefore, formatting it properly is essential. Once you have designed your duelist page, people will be more interested in dueling you because they will have the impression that you’re a serious duelist. As a result, you will gain more popularity and challenges. The first post of Spy's duelist page 9. Respecting other Duelists When someone opens a new duelist page, show respect and give emphasis. Posting something simple like “good luck” will give them a good impression of you. Act mature. Consequently, going around duelist pages and complaining about the results of these duelists is not recommended. For example, some players use their alternative accounts to complain about the results of other duelists in the free sports section. How did Credit sneak into the picture? 8. Gaining Experience Before choosing which maps to duel in, practice and gain experience in several maps. This will give you a wide variety of maps to duel in. Developing new tactics in your chosen map(s) will give you the advantage over your opponents. Refining your skills in these maps will make you a fear to other duelists. Practicing with a friend is a good method of doing this because even if you lose, it won’t affect your statistics. Winning is important but without losing, you won’t improve. Practice makes perfect. 7. Watching Others Many successful duelists have watched YouTube videos of other successful duelists playing in maps like Zone or Duality. By doing this, you will gain knowledge of timing, dodging and awareness. Learning these skills and adapting those seen in the videos will give you the upper hand in duels. Furthermore, duelists like Spy showcase videos of his duels, this is why he has been so successful and is highly respected. Just check Spy’s official YouTube channel, you will learn a lot. https://youtu.be/V_ZYhsYmf54 An excellent duel between Spy and Sigaran 6. Being Mature Before, during and after a duel I have seen several duelists use insults, complain about camping or call their opponents “laggers". Don’t be a sore loser. If you lose, say good game or something positive out of respect and sportsmanship. Fulfilling the requirements for evidence of the duel and a friendly conversation will not do harm but firing insults will give them a bad impression of you. Therefore, limiting conversation is key to maintaining a professional outlook, thus being successful. 5. Following Rules & Regulations When posting your results on your duelist page, make sure that your screenshots match the requirements of those in the free sports rules. There are many who avoid this, in fact, more than half of the results from duelists are do not meet these requirements. These duelists have not become successful and are seen as “fake”, do not follow in their footsteps. Similarly to number 10, following the rules of free sports will once again give others the impression that you're a serious duelist. 4. Cheating, or Better Said, NOT Cheating To begin with, no one likes someone who uses hacks or attempts to cheat. This is because it is unfair to the opposition and shows that you have no skill. It is also against the Tanki Online rules so you will just end up with a long block. In maps like Zone, there are spots which are not easily accessible, and some players drop the flag in these areas. This is classed as cheating but it is known as "multing" because the other person must drop or lose the flag in order to return the flag otherwise he must wait for auto-return. It is unfair on the opponent and is boring to watch. Quite simply, no one likes a cheater. Likewise, there has been several rumours of some duelists making fake screenshots. Who has the time to do this? Just don’t bother trying, be fair to yourself and to your opponenets. Cheating gets you nowhere, I mean, why is he jumping into a hole? 3. Participating in the Tournaments Try to participate in official or unofficial tournaments like Tanki Online Star League (TOSL) or Masters of The Swords (MoTS). Taking part in these tournaments will give you experience playing in eSports maps, practicing against good duelists and if successful, your popularity will increase. As a result, making you more known in the community. If successful during these tournaments, you can post your results on your duelist page underneath your achievements. The more achievements, the more people will want to duel you. Front page of the TOSL forum topic 2. Posting Losses When a duelist loses fairly, they make excuses about why the duel shouldn’t be on their duelist page. This is wrong and stupid. If you have been beaten fairly, then it is a loss. Posting losses on your duelist page makes you more noticeable. For example, more people have viewed my loss against on my duelist page than any of my wins. The reputation of my duelist page has been acknowledged by top duelists. Posting losses makes you more of a person, losing is vital to becoming successful. Lankbouv is a great example of this. 1. Winning This is obvious, the more you win, the more successful you will be. Having a good win to loss ratio does attract more challengers. However, faking wins will not achieve anything. There have been many duelists ever since the start of free sports, the successful ones stayed active and are now currently playing for top Russian and English clans. Pro's Advice My guest tonight will only have to answer two questions. He got lucky this time <_<. But they are very important questions. He is an ex-Supremacy and ex-Vavilon 2 (Legion) member which are both top clans in the EN and RU communities. He also was a duelist with over 50 wins without gaining a single loss. Guessed it already? Let's find out if you were correct! Q1: What made you successful from the start of your dueling career? I'm sure you weren't pro when you first started? @Suspect: When I first started dueling, I always had in mind that everyday I would get better and better the more I trained. I finally got to a level I was happy with. I did this by watching videos of famous XP/BP players for example Spy, True.Legend and Lankbouv. I have acknowledged the positives and negatives from each of them. After watching several videos, I took little parts from their style and used them to develop my own. I had a clan mate Militant who was an experienced duelist and he really helped me improve. After reaching a certain level of skill and my aim becoming better and better, I started training in other maps. Me: Hmm... so stealing other people's tactics. Got it! (JK) ;) Q2: What advice do you have for future or new duelists joining the free sports section? @Suspect: I would recommend to all new duelists to start playing in Parma as soon as possible. This is because your aim, predictions and timing definitely gets better this way. But most importantly, never give up. No matter how hard you lose, or from who you lose to. I have lost to Spy 5-1 at the beginning of my career and trust me, it doesn't do any damage. It just motivates you to train and beat him one time. Finally, set a goal and train towards it, and only this way you will achieve what you want and for *BLEEP* sake do not try to attempt to hack, this will just bring you haters and will make you do bad in tournaments since you can't hack during them which will result in a loss. Me: Thank you Suspect for taking the time out of your free schedule to answer these questions! :) Conclusion Well, that is all I know. I hope you all enjoyed this guide and please comment anything about this guide in the comments below. Criticism is compulsory!
