    While the sun can hold jupiter, it cannot hold a nail. The large scale gravity exerted by the sun has significant effects on only significant bodies. Gravity fields exerted by smaller but nearer bodies (such as earth exerting gravity on a satellite) can easily overcome the sun's force in space. By space here, we mean the empty space in the solar system as of now. Space outside of the Oort cloud still has some gravity exerted on it by the sun, but we call this stray gravity, and this is pretty much insignificant. Also, no amount of gravity can be called 'tiny' or it's opposite.
