Well, currently, it's only on Android devices, and in the current version of the game, you can't see any friends or any battles from the battle list, and I am assuming that no one can invite you if you are on mobile.

MoF does have a discord, and members are fairly active there too, but at the moment, there isn't a lot of spam, not even close to get a warning, so I wouldn't be too worried about spam.
