I believe at an early age its for training for things your gona get later on to M3 Like tier 2.0 Weapons, You can Specialize in Close Range Combat, Healing, Camping, Long range sniping, back up ect. what ever you choose, I personally specialize in Close Range combat, I can also do long range and healing, camping is just not my type.
