  1. Yes, except the numbers were even bigger. Just in 2010 Tanki grew up from 200k to 1M accounts (according to Tanki history), and in 2012 Tanki had 10M registered accounts. For roughly 9 million users, 2011 or 2012 was their first experience, and the new weapon balance was already in place back then. That's why players have so much nostalgia for old graphics, old crystal economy, and old Madness map, but no memory of (or desire for) the pre-balance system. Hopefully you see what I mean. Also, most Tanki YouTube videos started rolling out 2010 or later (usually gold box montages), and these videos idealized the old graphics, but not the old balance system. These older videos showed new players (like me in 2014) what the "classic" era of Tanki looked like for older players, and what we saw was, again, evenly spread-out upgrades. I will admit that videos alone can't decide what's classic or not, but my argument is that almost all players' best-kept memories were starting to form here, not earlier. Looking at World of Warcraft, their first "classic" release isn't a copy of 2004, but rather 2006 before Expansion 1. The game was fleshed out and balanced better than 2004 (according to what I was able to find), plus most players registered in 2005 or 2006, hence their desire for that specific year. We can take that example to Tanki. 2008 and 2009 were years of development, fixing, optimizing, and revising, and by 2011 Tanki finally had solid ground and their first healthy player base, and update 1.100 didn't happen yet. I think that's the experience that old players want in TC. Of course, for people who started after 1.100, the old "new" graphics will be included also, if I understand the direction that TC is taking.
  2. Even with your very energetic tone, I agree with your sentiment. The current TC weapon balance is much more "historic" than "classic". Nobody would want the equipment breakdown feature, despite it coming from 2008 (thankfully we don't have it right now), and most of us hold the same opinion on pre-balance turrets. The 2008/2009 era had the least people playing. Almost nobody remembers, or likes, this period as much as the years afterwards, leading up to 2016.
  3. So far, with what I experienced, Classic has got its potential. First, I got two complaints bundled together: the equipment rank-up distribution, emulating 2008 instead of 2011 or later, plus the planned obsolescence for most guns in-game, wasting the special properties of almost all equipment. There's a question on how useful Smoky XT or LC will be, since Smoky is planned to be the weakest weapon meant for noobs, yet XT is unlocked at Brigadier (as I currently see). So... it's a vanity item, or maybe Smoky XT will indeed have better stats?? Either way, the obsolescence system makes me worry for the future. Now for the positives. An old feature I do like is the 1/10 economy. Please keep it because it's easy and simple . The paints got very interesting rank requirements, but I welcome it... because it means I get Hoholma earlier! Speaking of paints, I don't care about bringing back paint protections, and I imagine neither does the Tanki Classic team. Too much work. The planned module protections are logical enough. To my experience, the rate of overdrive charge was quite slow, which is a good sign. If all overdrive types are to be like this, I wouldn't complain... as long as they will be off by default. I don't believe hull movement is finished yet, so I have no notes. Will Classic emulate 2008 hull speed (all the same) or post-2012 hull speed (various physical properties + Hunter M3 technically being fastest)? Tanki underwent constant balance changes between 2014 and 2020, so maybe there's a physics snapshot that the Classic team is focused on, like March 2019? As for balance, oh boy. The drugging already started and I feel bittersweet about it. Still, keep it as is. No PTW yet. Also on topic of supplies, I lived through almost every iteration of Tanki's supply cooldowns. Which iteration of cooldowns should we expect in Classic? The very first one, or the current one? Maybe a Classic-exclusive solution, similar to protection modules? Looking at the garage, I am expecting the eventual return of the small shed in Classic. Are there any plans to implement holiday flavors of the garage in Classic? Will the holiday paint have a true holiday version, or just all checkers all day? Since this project is newly opened, that's all I have for now. Thank you Classic team for releasing the first test during Winter break! If anything new comes up, or an earlier topic gets an update, I'll make a post about it, especially on the actively-developed features. Cheers!
