No one said the update will take place during a challenge. I would assume that it will coincide with the beginning of a challenge, which will feature Keys instead of Containers.

When I first heard about the planned update, I wasn't too excited, because I thought you would need to obtain both Keys AND Containers. When I learned that you only collect Keys, I was more open to this update. My thoughts: Pro: Cool graphics and animations. Pro: You can earn Keys in one event and spend them in another, making it possible to skip exotics you don't like/already have, and hold out for ones you actually want in the future. Con: To 'compensate,' there will (most likely) be less Keys available during events, compared to the amount of Containers in previous events. Pro: Keys may now be found inside Containers. Con: While Skin Keys in Ultra Containers are nice, an important quandary to address is that an upgrade to an Ultra Container from a regular Container may not be beneficial. We know that Skin Keys are exotic, but the rewards also guarantee an exotic item (yes, unless you have them all). However, Ultra Containers are not so. For example, if Ultra Keys are epic rarity, you could open a regular Container and obtain an Ultra Key (epic rarity), then open the Ultra Container and receive 100 mines (uncommon rarity). In such case you would probably be left feeling cheated (quite reasonably so).
