[Poll] Is rail gun becoming obsolete in the higher ranks? Discuss

Recommended Posts

I ask because no matter the skill if you have smoky, firebird, twins, you are easily out performed by thunder, freeze, rico.

Providing battling a equally experienced player and a reasonable m-level, leaving out what ever the player has for a tank hull, drugs and protective paints.

I remember when you joined a match and there where easily 3+ rail gunners on a team.

Now its shafts 2+ on a team and you are hard pressed to find a rail-gunner on any map that has shafts.

I even see some clans don't use rail guns anymore only shaft.

I have played with both 100 flag games.

I personally believe rail gun can exist the same as shaft dose teamwork

Shaft needs choke points and people to protect their flank "majority of time" as they can't move and dish out 100+damage and has just as long a reload in no scope mode.

Rail gun just needs a little diversion or good timing and it is up to 85 damage plus it can move.

What is everyone else thoughts?

since i use m3 rail+m3 viking, i think it is very definatly still a good weapon, whenever i play, i do quite well, and other railers also do well.

also, if your not seeing other railers, you might be playing the wrong maps, i tend to play a lot of kungurs, and i often see other railers there.

~edit~

also, since most people at high ranks will have "better" stuff, the only ones who continue to use it are quite good at it.

Well you are not a high rank yet. Neither am I, for that matter. But at Third Lieutenant, Railgun is possibly one of the best weapons there is.

I personally prefer not to use Railguns if I am captaining a team/clan war. I think it is too weak to survive in those circumstances. In an ordinary battle, it does fine. Just like hornet.

I personally think that once someone reaches brigadier they SHOULD have a better weapon (M3 Thunder/Freeze/Ricochet/Shaft: M2s are not as good as an M3 Railgun). I'm not sure how it survives there, though. From my experience as a lower rank solely playing games involving marshals, I see railgun as a weaker weapon that can still hold it's own. The same way I see isida, Twins, and Firebird, to a greater or lesser extent for each.

EDIT: Your poll options are messed up. I think that railgun is not competitive, but it is usable. -_____-

Eh for the options I fixed it. English is weird language to me.

I know I am not a high rank but I play with m-2/m-3 shafts often enough and I don't understand they go say example 30-3 D/L when I can go 100/50 I realize they can't move but for a whole match that is a low number. I do see some shaft users go just as many kills as I get but those guys actually move around most don't.

It is competitive when used in conjunction with double power and the stuff you are shooting at has no paint protection or double armor loaded.

you can still defend fairly well with cover, but attacking a flag isn't really an option against Tier 2 M3 competition. So is it obsolete? Only if you plan on attacking the flag.

Railgun is quite a powerful gun in the mid ranks, as you can see, I have made many tankmen tremble with fear when I have used it, glorious victories abound.

That is, until I turned Major, then everybody started using M2/M3 Tier 2 guns and hulls and my Railgun becomes a mere peashooter to these things.

I am super pro with railgun, especially if its M3. I bet I could get at least a 5 k/d ratio. But now I am saving for M2 Thunder very soon and I just need 2900 more crystals for it. I heard M2 Thunder is better than M3 Railgun. Is it?

From my own experience I can say railgun is definitely compatible and beneficial up to the highest ranks.

I started late with the use of railgun myself. From Brigadier up to Marshal (400K exp.) 99% of all the battles I fought were CTF with Hornet M3, Railgun M3 and Prodigi. Not because I didn't have any other options, but because I found this combo to be epic.

For me it is the ultimate combo for capturing flags!!! It got me many first places, with or without the use of drugs.

If you got the skill down, you can play with it forever...

You really need luck to catch flags with rail without any drug, even with Hornet or Viking M3. No railgun skills can save you from 180 hits from Shafts, splash damage raeping Thunders, Freeze and Ricochet. Still, railgun remains quite usable and fun to play with in the higher ranks, and it's annoying to play against. Since Shaft introduction is quite clear why Railgun place has been taken by the new weapon: more accurancy and power make it the ultimate sniper weapon in Tanki Online.

Railgun has become more like a derivative assault rifle, while Shaft is a pure bolt-action sniper rifle.

Not at all. With skills, a good m3 railgun should destroy all m2 thunders in terms of kill-rates, kdr, and one-to-one face-offs.

IDK the knock back can ruin you're shot and the splash damage depending on what cover you are using you may be dead or near death soon.

obsolete just means that when you get to the higher ranks it will not be plausible to use to it's full potential as it once was.

Nah, the knockback makes no difference to the best railguns. Even I could deal with thunder knockback 99% of the time, and I make no claim to being anywhere near the best railgun.

Hornet or viking? Turret rotated 90 degrees when shooting?

I don't agree with you on this one. I have done it many times, with success! If it wouldn't pay off that well, I would not have played with this combo and liked it so much, since flagging is the only game I play with rail/hornet...

As long as you know your surroundings very well, know where the shafts are at, know when they are occupied and when they just took their shot you have a great chance of getting away with the flag. Of course you can always take 'em out first yourself. Lets be honest, almost no tank will withstand a 180 hit from shaft since most tanks don't have full health when reaching the flag. So, what you're actually saying is that it's always luck to capture flags without drugs.

Sure there are more tanks to worry about, but not all are defending the flag. Plus it is not a 1 vs 10 game, you have a team too with often more than one going for the flag. Good teamwork creates great possibilities. 8)
