[GUIDE] Shaft

Recommended Posts

First time making a guide, open to any criticism and comments.

Yes i have seen that other shaft guide. No it did not have as much details as this.

Shaft.

It is the most powerful gun in TO (as of now) in terms of damage, dealing ridiculously high damage at full charges. Each upgrade increases turning speed and reload speed, but the only reason you would probably want to upgrade it is because of its lethal increase of damage at m2 and especially m3. Its main feature is the sniper scope, which allows you to shoot with deadly* accuracy, enabling you to shoot that railgun with his turret poking out of a thin wall or targets that can be shot only through tiny gaps between walls. Many people say it's overpowered, many saying that it's not, but who cares? If you're a camper or just looking for more bang in your guns, this is the weapon for you.

(*Deadly only if user is good)

Weapon Type: Support. (Excellent defense capabilities, good offense support, really bad at flag capping unless drugged at m3, in which the no-scoped shot with double power has almost the same power as m3 rail)

STATS:------------------M0---------M1----------M2-----------M3

Damage(No-scope):16-20-----18-22------23-27-------28-32

Damage(Scoped)---18-100----20-110-----25-140----30-180

Reload(No-scope)----17.6-------18.8------20.0---------21.4

F. Charge Time--------4.9---------5.1--------5.3------------5.5

Rotation Speed--------28----------30--------34------------40

Cost(Very expensive)-800-------2400-------7200--------21600

PROS:

* Extreme damage can kill almost anything in 1 full charge

* Only weapon with a scope; very high accuracy even at extreme distances

* Can hit any part of a tank, allowing it to shoot turrets through thin walls and partly hidden tanks.

* Could possibly halt enemy movement along a route

CONS:

* Enemies will try to kill you if you annoy them too much

* Slow charge rate

* About 90 degrees vision during scope mode, zoom will increase focus on where you are facing but in turn, sacrifices a little more area of sight

* Wobble; any knockback on the tank can stagger your aim

* Needs to stand still while in scope mode

* No-scoped shots are weak, only for finishing shots.

* High chance of missing to catch a gold box :C

TIP 1: Use the no-scope only for low health targets. For example, an m1 shaft can't kill an m3 dictator with just 1 full charge. Use your no-scope shot to finish him off.

TIP 2: Use the camera buttons (Q & E) to look. Trust me, it helps in determining whether enemies will come along your firing range or not, or if just paranoid someone will come to your spot and massacre you.

TIP 3: NEVER ever ever snipe in open ground without teammates to cover you. You will be a sitting free kill if you do.

TIP 4: DON'T try to make a fight with people who have shaft protect paints, especially if your shaft is m2 below. Shoot them, they shoot back, and chances are you won't live. Even the lowest shaft protect paint (Lead) can still negate a good 36 hp at a shaft m3's full charge, rendering it an m2 shaft with 144 damage to people with Lead.

TIP 5: Sometimes snipers need to take a break from their killing spree. Keep killing the same dude over and over again and he will be likely to drug and hunt you, or you may attract too much attention to your spot, which is definitely not what you want if you like a good K/D ratio OR if defending your last flag. Change positions if this happens.

TIP 6: Since shaft is the most complex weapon in the game unlike those freezes and ricochets who keep spraying all over the place, shaft needs a little mental power and prediction to bring out its ultimate potential. Try predicting where the enemy will go and what position will be the best to defend your flag/aid in the offense.

TIP 7: Ricos and thunders can be a real pain in the neck. Kill the ricos first as they will kill you if you miss your only shot to save yourself, and thunders second because it only messes up your aim a bit and you can probably charge enough to kill him before he does the same to you.

PROTIP 8: For advanced predictors only. Let's say you attracted some haters and they all want you dead, and suppose your teammate come to your aid. You rush to a safe spot where the enemy can only come in at one place, and your teammates are already keeping them at bay. TRY TO WATCH WHERE YOUR TEAMMATE IS SHOOTING, since you can predict the enemy is right where he/she is pointing at. Ready up that charge incase the enemy gets past and shows up at your scope. (A good example is that spot in kungur red team where you can camp and wait for enemies at the left flag spawn area.)

TIP 9: [For Campers] Have patience. Always keep zoomed in where the enemy will likely pop out and dont let nothing through. You may have to hide a bit as there is always the chance that there is a waiting railgun or thunder behind cover wanting to kill you after you unload your shot. [For people who are just impatient/too paranoid to camp] Try to make a full charge then unscope every 20 or 30 second after the initial full charge, then repeat, or change positions. Useful in maps you never been to before or while hiding near enemy territory.

TIP 10: This has been already been told in ShadowVisions' and in Vikingsrall's guides. Use the "P" button to silently unzoom, so you can eliminate the chance of giving away your position, or when cornered by a waiting thunder, use it to make him believe you are still zoomed in, and rush back to cover :)

PROTIP 11: Keep a "mental hp gauge" of the enemy in your head; this can earn you many points from kill steals. (Example: m3 viking with full hp, gets shot by thunder thrice. You can kill him with a nearly full shot at m0 shaft, and 4/5ths at m1 shaft. You can probably guess when to shoot at m2 or m3 :P Although you may have to consider if he has shaft protection paint.)

TIP 12: If facing an enemy camper shaft, try to work your brain and figure out places where you can kill that camper. If you can't find any, be sure to use double power and go surprise him when he's just halfway charged at you.

TIP 13: If on Monte Carlo/Stadium, expect many shafts with shaft protect paints if on the higher levels, or some drugger shafts or possibly an m3 shaft.

TIP 14: If dealing with shafts of higher levels, only your brain can win against him/her. Try your own tactics and outsmart that noob!

TIP 15: Last technique that I use for desperate battles. Sometimes a full charge just won't cut it, neither does a no-scope after that. You may be an m2-m3 shaft but you can't hold them all off. Shaft isn't a perfect overkill weapon, it can't kill everyone in one fell swoop. But if you want to act rambo then use double armor and double power! Shaft has penetrating shots just like railgun, but with more power as it charges! Every penetration will reduce your damage by 1/2, but with double power, you can deal a full charge equivalent with just a half charge! If the enemy is literally coming in hordes then you will have to drug to live or hold them off for your teammates. Try to make your shots penetrate as much possible people during your last stand and they will be killed off by you / wounded bad your teammies can kill them.

Damage against shaft protect paints

I will be listing this in terms of full charge damage.

Lead

M0--80

M1--88

M2--112

M3--144

Irbis

M0--65

M1--71.5

M2--91

M3--117

Jade

The dreaded Jade. Enemy of all shafts. You have no hope against surviving against people equipped with this paint if they have m3 vik or m3 mammoth also equipped.

Make a run for it or make a gamble with your life if this dude is still on full hp.

M0--55

M1--60.5

M2--77

M3--99

More to be added as soon as I learn more secrets about shaft.

PICS:

You can snipe enemy base here if pro enough.

You can tell your teammates if the enemy is drugging and incoming in this side of the map

@hichigo: there you will be massacred by any thunder or rail easily. The spot proposed by LongCat is much safe (but less vision, of course).

Nice guide, coherent arguments and well writed.

It's much safer there to snipe, and btw, when you dont have time enough to go down that ledge where you can snipe then you can use that spot

to snipe. I said "if pro enough" because you need good reaction skills to get a kill, since I have tried it and they pass really fast even for a viking.

I liked the rambo part.

I'ts a really good guide, I can see you've put alot of effort in it... I mean it,

it's so easy to understand the information that I didn't even know, I've never noticed this before here at the forum.

My greatist compliments for that.

even though I don't use shaft, this was very interesting.

EDIT: Can you shoot trough those metal pillars in your pictures?

sorry, I've double posted it without knowing.

this is the good version^

My guide for shaft:

1) Find a camping spot

2) Aim at enemies

3) Make them rage

For somebody who doesn't use shaft ... pretty good guide, huh? o_o
