SCIENCE TOPIC - Ask here what you don't know!

 Share

Recommended Posts

Good evening guys :)

I will set it as simple as I can.

In this topic you will be able to post questions about the scientific world, all what you don't know and all what you would like to learn about everything, just ask and I will reply to you as soon as I read your question :)

IMPORTANT: In every post you make you can ask at max two questions and to ask something again you will need to wait me to reply to your previous questions.

1. Don't ask anything related to sex or sexual arguments or anything that can develop a racist argument.

2. Follow Tanki rules when making questions, be carefull.

3. My replies aren't dogmas nor definitive and absolute answers, they might be a bit different from how you would read them on a book or on the Web (if you have something to say about a reply I gave, feel free to, but be always respectfull).

Why do we excist?

In which context you mean it? Scientific alone or scientific related to religious?

Not religious... just scientific alone. ^_^

What's the meaning of life?

I'm sorry I'm asking you this; since there would no correct answer... but what do you think of it?

What happens when Pinocchio says, 'My nose will grow now'?

This is a famous paradox. We can consider two possibilities for this statement:

1) If Pinocchio's nose grow, this mean that Pinocchio is telling the truth.

The fact that Pinocchio's nose grows when he tells a lie does not necessarily mean that his nose will not grow if he tells the truth. Therefore it is not inconsistent for his nose to grow when he says it will, so it will grow as said.

2) If Pinocchio said that "My nose will grow now" but his nose won't grow, he lied, then his nose will grow anyways because he said a lie.

What's the meaning of life?

I'm sorry I'm asking you this; since there would no correct answer... but what do you think of it?

Don't worry for asking :) The title is ask here what you don't know, this mean also things that we can discuss sharing different opinions.

As a future medic, I'd prefer to say that life is a complex cooperation of different mechanism..

I was told that "our life must be compared to a car or a PC, it happens only if all his mechanism work togheters".

So, starting from the atoms-->molecules-->compounds-->organelles-->cells-->organs-->biological system-->complex body you can obviosly see that life is a complex cooperation of different mechanism and little parts.

But we looked to the human body alone.. We need to take a look to all the universe around him..

We find the hydrosphere, atmosphere, lithosphere and biosphere all made out of little parts. Every "spheres" work togheter to make the Earth, then the Earth is related to the Solar System, that is related to a galaxy, which is related to the rest of the Universe, etc, etc :)

As you saw, we can define the life in this way, as a little part of a huge mechanism that is the Universe.

Now, thinking of "why we excist" or "wich is the meaning of life", we can speak about how life came on the Eart (and I'm pretty sure not only here ;)).

Life developped from a long, long, long series of changes made by single cells.. We started from unicellular prokaryotes and "ended" with multicellular organisms :) This is all based, always, on cooperations and power of fitting the environment in a specific time, to survive.

Think of monkeys, they had to come down from trees to find better food, so they started to walk. They started to run to survive from enemies, etc... This is the power of fitting the environment in where we are placed :)

Hope I replied your questions, I couldn't be as accurate as I wanted with this argument since translating from italian to english it's difficult with such words or notions.

P.S For me, the meaning of life is this one: "Live a day as it's your last day, take care of yourself and of who loves you. Work for the good, work not for a profit but for a life meaning"

Thank you for you time to post that; I had to figure some things out with google translator... your grammar is quite complex; especially for me because I'm dutch.

I assume you believe in the evolution theory; so do I. ^_^

What colour is a mirror?

(I know the answer, I'm just asking) XD

Mirrors don't emit light-waves, so they are colourless..

The light-waves hit them and bounce away all compact, so this create a colourless effect..

Other items reflect all light-waves but not as compact as they came, so they make a monochromatic effect :)

Well, I see both sides of the arguments..

I believe in the evolution theory, but I believe that there's something above us, something that we can't explain (not only a God, it can be everything, but just not explainable).

Wrong, mirrorrs do have colours - a kind of white-ish green-ish thingy. :3

It depends on how they are made :)

They can also be blue and reflect your images, or be transparent so be colourless. This is a question to which we can give different replies. Nice one ;)

Why do we excist?

Does there have to be a reason? Maybe we just exist, nothing more nothing less. We should just enjoy it. (If there really is a reason of our existence, shouldn't we know why, so we could act upon it?)

incorrect, mirrors are an "adaptive"surface which reflect into your eyes light from other sources. Also, a photograph of this "white ish green ish" substance would be impossible to see because light would have to be emitted in order for the color to be seen, thus interrupting the optical perceptors in your retina. Sorry if thats over your head.
