Military Base

Large map based upon a military command base, complete with heliports, control tower, barracks, guarded entrance, motor pool and bays, HQ building, and other sundry related items found in bases. As always, the idea is to make a playable map that is as realistic as possible. Few raised vantage points, a lot of flat and long firing trajectories, and complex methods of ingress and egress from flag locations (not show here, but one with be in front of the HQ buildings, the other in the communications parking lot (steel towers).

Notes

 

 

 

 

The outer walls were done without overt detail, they still require variation as they were copied in blocks and never retouched. Some concrete appears discolored in the hanger areas, it needs to be replaced.

 

Control Tower needs to be retouched, too simple and completed simply for the sake of speeding up the build of the map.

 

 

 

 

Thoughts

 

 

 

 

We need MORE DOOR tile in Tanki.

 

Anyways, I really like the "Hanger T" structure, and if you ever get a chance to play with it, they did something that was a worry till I started working with it, and that is not give it a 2 dimensional depth to the wall. It has depth when you observe the edges of the garage door. Unlike the 2 sided tile that is transparent that appears to be steel

tracks with vents in them, this building "feels" better and usable.

 

 

 

Epic map. I wish tanki could add some new maps, what gamers have made ;(

We don't accept ideas regarding things or updates that were removed from the game so I don't see the point of posting the old madness that was removed not that long before.

Just my little way of protesting the criminal destruction of this amazing map. What I don't see the point of is taking it away, and replacing it with a map that no one ever plays. Clearly, that was a huge mistake. I don't mind if you guys delete my post, but you can't delete my passion for Madness.

No one is gonna delete your posts nor moderators ''can'' even delete posts. Map was removed because of the anti-cheat system so if they work their way around the system then I hope they will bring it back too, the current one we have is just...no comment.

Yeep, so I hope it will do one final return and blast everything up while the anti-cheat and the hackers are taken care of and we no longer have to worry about it getting removed but as developers are busy with other tasks, not sure when they gonna get to improve the system so I guess we just have to hope and wait. :)

I'm, I didn't like about me jumping and self'destructing but overall, it was a perfect map and quite fun one indeed. :D

"Tanks" a lot for the compliment.  I wish they would too.  I have toyed with some ideas to throw at the forum where you can suggest ideas, and I think I MIGHT have hit upon something, but, no spoilers there.  I'm a smart guy, maybe I might be able to proffer something yet.  Wait till they finish the HTML 5 conversion, then they might be willing to consider a map discussion.  Right now I'm sure they're hating life try to convert all this stuff.

 

That leads me to a question too.  Will they convert Alternativa Editor to an HTML based tool in the future since no FLASH support will be forth coming in the coming years?  Wonder what they are going to dev on once we're moved over to HTML 5.

 

BTW, if liked that, I got another one I'm almost done with, might even be able to make a movie on that one.

Maybe, but it probably isn't necessary. XML files will probably be read the same way by both Flash or HTMl5 versions.

I hope you are guys right, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the return of Madness. It's a shame that cheaters could have such an effect on the game.

it would be coo if there was a map with a tall tower in the middle which would be an amazing sniping position but would take a while to get up, because there would be stairs (yes, stairs, not ramps) leading up around it. also, enemies would probably keep shooting you so you dont get to the top.  :)

Did a bit of research, and .XML files can be read by HTML5.

Variety of Maps in Battles List.

 With the new unified battles list comes the lack of some maps. 

perticularly Rio and Desert (and some others) and even though theres More of other maps like lost temple and chernobyl (whitch i like both) the lower count of Rio ond other maps means they are full all the time and if "i" click battle it never takes me to those ones.

 

im just saying i'd like to see a more even count of maps to maps (i only get one Rio map at this rank) means that if i wanted to do my mission(s) on Rio and its full im forced to go to another battle. :unsure:

 

just somthing  i've noticed that I would be glad if you considered this. :)

Yes there is a lack of variety since the servers were removed. Not everyone has a PRO pass so I think there should be some battles which are always on the list even if they are empty like polygon cp, highland ctf, iran dm etc.

There was, back in 2015, Vikingsral had posted it.  Nothing came of it though from what I understand.  Shame, it was 55 grids by 55 grids, and everyone was supposed to submit that wanted to.  I have no idea why it never amounted to anything either.

 

All I can think of was there were too many people that didn't apply the basics of balance in them, and wanted maps that were simply appealing to the eye, but no thought to game play applied.

 

Making a map is actually not as easy as one might think.  You have to afford each team parity in terms of advantage and disadvantage, and still not make a mirror image map.  Add in all the technical difficulties, like building in the "unbroken" line segments for he parser to draw things from, and now you have to be careful about placement of tiles and buildings and all sorts of non-such.  Fire up the TTT, drop a tank down, and press ctrl-B sometime, and then you see, that make up is very important apparently to the game server.  Press tab and you see another set of parameters.  All in all, a lot of those could be thrown out, but then, lots of "butt hurt" feelings arise from 12 to 14 year old kids and suddenly you might have a whole angry crowd of people that used to spend money that no longer will if they feel they have been slighted.  I'd say that contest would have to be tiered, give "A" for effort, and then grading technical and game play value, you then cut away more, till you get to the serious map makers.  My one gripe in map making is the lake of skins for tiles.  More doors, more windows, more variety of types of venue in com build.  We need all sorts of skins, stuff for stores, shops, offices, etc.  Elements, I mean, come on, give me a crumby HVAC to drop on a roof some where, and trees, how about sprites design to be over layed on the trees, so you can shoot through the leaves, but the bigger branches do stop rounds, and you can't just drive trough them all.  I made a map like that once, carefully place the bush sprites over the tree objects, it worked, but it was a HUGE undertaking, snapping off grid and trying to place a cluster carefully, one by one, that rotated with the tree properly.  Little things like that would help a lot.

 

But I'm getting off topic.  The point is, these are probably the reasons why nothing came of it.  The age demographic is such that too much would have to be done to quell the masses and their incessant complaining and challenging of the developers when their pet map was shot down.  I still think it could be done, but like I said, you would take the top 100, have them judged for creativity, etc, and then technical complexity, and then playability.  Who knows, maybe, ONE DAY.

Brutal map actually, very small, with levels.  That would be something I don't know if I'd play, but then I only play medium and large maps, I only shaft. Nice eye for equality without mirroring.  My only thought here, stagger the trees on the top edges, maybe give it a more organic effect.  That said, that's a slight aesthetic matter of opinion, otherwise, it's actually a bang up job for map that size.

add night mode for every map, and yeah tanki should add such maps as you made i pretty like them :) I am getting rid of the old maps -__-

Grand Duchy

(BE GENTLE.  I have NO video editing software and the TTT tank runs a little slow and a little odd, doesn't handle great.  No audio either, I'll find something to start adding tunes to the recordings eventually)

 

A small nation/city/state capitol, complete with old homes and a castle.  This map has A LOT of routes to the flag, a lot of places to snipe from, and a lot nooks and corners to hide and cut through.

 

Notes

 

 

I need to block off the cliff near the town exit, it's supposed to be a no go zone.  The tunnels I used match the outer wall library, but had no corners, and the two turns appear to be illuminated from above for no good reason.  And as always, the trees, here they acted a touch strange when placed in the circular grass planter I made for them when observed up close.

 

 

 

Thoughts

 

 

Started out as a town, then I hit the castle material since I was using all the Fach' library for the homes, so it turned into old euro town, with an old castle in it.  Might be a difficult map to score in, in spite of all the cubby holes and little hidden routes, a lot of open ground to be had to pick people off with the flag.  Then again, this might be perfectly balanced too.  All in all, while not what I set out to do, it ended up nice, at least to me.
