Why choose a railgun over a shaft?

Hello people!

I'm still fairly new to tanki (few weeks) and have many turrets and hulls but like two turrets more so than others, those being the railgun and the shaft.

It's getting to a point where I need to pick either railgun or shaft to upgrade (m1-m2-m3) and before I make the investment I want to make the right choice. I really like the railgun but the shaft seems to outdo it at sniping and close range (quick zoom+hit=dead usually).

So is one definitively better than the other at later upgrades/ in general?

(I use viking with rail, mammoth with shaft)

^Something to add: with Shaft you can't move while aiming (aiming gives full damage), while you can with Railgun and still do full damage.

So with Railgun you can hide, shoot, hide again without being hit yourself. That is not possible with Shaft.

I do have to say you made a great choice when it comes to hulls in combination with the turret. But maybe you should consider buying Hunter in a later stadium, because it is a bit more flexible then Viking and really perfect with Rail in my opinion.

Also next time if you have any questions like these, post them in this topic.

With Shaft, is possible to deal enormous damage from an incredible distance, and can hit from places Railgun can not.

However, with double damage equipped, Railgun is easily the superior, and is more mobile and versatile than sluggish cumbersome Shaft.

Shaft is more like sniper, slow and careful, but Railgun is a lance!

Mostly depends on ur playing style. After rebalance, shaft is only good in huge maps like lost temple. It gets underpowered in other maps. As there are not many large maps that get played, railgun would be the wise choice.

Agree with Monkblob, mostly depends on style preferred.

I prefer railgun, can't do as much damage as shaft but is more mobile.

Having said that I get shafted by shafts a lot.

I have an M1 shaft and occasionally but rarely play it, I just find it a little boring as you end up sitting in one spot as far away from the action as possible and waiting for people to cross into your 'zone'.

Shaft is exciting like - watching paint dry - or bark growing on trees.

Shaft has been badly nerfed, losing its OP damage, but it's still about as much dangeorus as the other M3 weapons, which was the goal of recent updates. After RB Shaft is unnecessarily specialized in sniping, Railgun can do pretty much the same faster and safer.
