I had the pleasure of playing a CP game today where the other team only had one player with Thunder protection:) I scored my first ever Quad-Kill...it was the perfect display of Thunder's best attribute. I never enter battles without rail and thunder...both devastate so quickly. MM combined with buffing firebird and freeze has continued to reduce Thunder protections...good stuff!

Rarely seen players with fire and freeze protection

Thunder has the possibility of dealing more damage than an equal modification, equally supplied Railgun. That does not seem right.

Honestly, everything has the possibility of dealing more damage than railgun. And this is to wipe the egos out of everyone from existence. Besides more people have railgun than thunder.

Railgun is for surgeons. Thunder is for brawlers:) I always us protection versus both for good reason...used well they both devastate tanks quickly from good range. I always dread facing hornet/wasp+rail when they know what they are doing.

thunder and railgun are very different , comparing these 2 turrets is absurd for the following reasons

1- thunder is mid-range while railgun is long-range

2-thunder has splash which is not like railgun's piercing ability

3-thunder's reload is not like railgun's , railgun is mainly meant for peek-a-boo but can be used in other ways , while thunder is not meant to be used in such way

comparing railgun with thunder is like comparing shaft with smoky , 2 completely different turrets from different categories .

Yeah, people who compare railgun to thunder just don't have any common sense because thunder would beat railgun at every range but long range assuming that it's with the same hull, and same modification level, and the players on each end have the same capabilities.

Hammer can beat thunder at short range and closer, so in order for thunder to have any chance of beating hammer, it needs to keep its distance.

The problem with this is that hammer does more damage than thunder at close range, thunder can out-DPS railgun even past the minimum damage range. Railgun will still win with cover, but because of lost damage potential the turret is only viable in TDM.

Head to head the statement is correct

but Why would a Rail user face Thunder head to head { unless they are dumb }

What you just said kinda proves my point of thunder vs railgun is a very bad comparison. But nonetheless, I still agree with you.

Okay, I have Thunder at m4. Is the Lightweight ordinance autoloader alt any good? Seems like it could be highly effective in smaller maps. Anyone with advice/experience that can share it?

I'd prefer the standard to be honest because of the damage it can do.

I have it on all the time. I find myself in short range fights a lot and the extra reload helps me switching targets faster. The reload is close to the stock Smoky but with extra damage and splash damage. It doesn't become a short range turret at all, you still have good damage at long range because there still is the same weak damage.

In pro battles without supplies I don't really use it. Medium hulls don't move like light hulls there so short range encounters happen less often. Everyone staying put on the base, then it helps to have more damage per shot to minimize exposure.

If it fits your playstyle already then go for it. You can't go wrong with the alteration anyway since everyone is on nitro and they bring in short range weapons on a medium hull in your range within no time.. ridiculous.

You describe what I thought the benefit would be...more damage and splash with almost same reload as smoky...intriguing for sure. Count me in once I get my hunter fully m4...just two more steps:)

Not as OP as firebird, but I do agree that thunder can be quite damaging to those without any protections against it.

Yes you are right

But if a team has 2+Thunder's raining lead it is auto win { if at least 1 guy in team knows the main objective  :ph34r: }

Not really an auto win, but it does make it that much harder for the other team to turn the tide of the battle.

This is mostly true when you have hunter and are in highland Cp camping on the high ledges.
