Self damage when a team mate is crossing your shooting line should be removed. Unfair compared to other turret !

Thunder is getting less and less interesting when you rank up.

it's a problem you have to deal with , just don't use Viking and use dictator or hunter instead , you'll get rid of it that easily .

The problem is just about logical mechanism. Inflicting self damage just because a team mate cross your shooting line is obviously not fair compared to other turret like Ricochet for instance (no self damage on friendly shoot but by bouncing on a wall, fair!). Yes you can get also a mammouth with a stronger protection, so what? unfairness remains.

You can try to get an m2 hunter.

The recent buff made Thunder even more useful. Right now the problem with the turret is that high protections are extremely common for it at high ranks. When MM puts me against Legends (Which it does on a regular basis  <_<), I have literally no chance against them with Thunder. I'm not sure if there's a way to fix without someone on either side getting annoyed but yeah...

Also since I'm here I may as well talk a bit about my opinion of the alts:

Subcalibre Rounds:

I really don't see a point in getting this, it basically turns Thunder into a weaker form of Smoky. Only place that it would really have some use is in small maps like Hill.

Small Caliber Charging Machine:

This one is slightly more useful, but still not that great. It's not that useful in regular battles but great for parkour and OMP.

"Sledgehammer" Rounds:

In my opinion, bad, basically it turns thunder into a fast firing short range turret, with the splash. -90% range means you're losing a ton of damage. Literally, to get max damage you have to be a range closer than Isida can reach. Really not worth an extra 20% reload, it should be at least 30% extra for that bad of a debuff.

thunder`s range is to low it is not mid range but close :(

Thunder feels like a strong turret to me now, I am viking m3 8/20 with 36% thunder protection and thunder is still really deadly, I always keep thunder protection on without it thunder is OP

I recently ranked up to marshal , I am going to get my M3 thunder to 5-10/20 and start using it again (along with dictator) , this combo made me feel like a true monster , smoky and striker are pretty powerful but they just don't have that feel ...

To me, since i have a completely full garage i kind of go with what i feel like  but thunder isn't really one of them. i mean sometimes i use it but just barely i used to snipe with thunder. but if you have a steady enough tank you can actually snipe with thunder. but if it was a last resort i would use it but thats just my opinion but yeah.  ;) byeeee!!

Is protection really a problem when using thunder? I am thinking about buying it m2 but if there is too much protection then I might buy twins or rico instead.

Well it's pretty good, but you also need it MUed to at least 3/10 at your rank.

In MM it depends on certain situations. For example, I'm willing to tackle a drugged up light hull with a good protection against my turret but only if I'm also drugged up, and I usually win. As for medium and heavy hull, then I'm keeping my distance.

I would try it in MM.

Note that if you buy thunder then you might want to also get a stable hull like hunter for example.

Thunder's strength lies in its ability to deliver large amounts of damage via splashing...whether rocking and hitting the ground near a section of "cover" or hitting walls near a suspected magnum. On maps with less vertical walls (where Rico struggles) Thunder is at its best. I've never been much of a sniper with thunder...prefer to deliver damage upon as many of the enemy as i can...rails love cleaning up the pieces:)

Definitely want to use this with Hunter on DS.

Is the amount of protection against thunder high?

At my level normally 2-4 folks will have thunder prot, 6-8 will have rail prot, next seems to be firebird, twins, or rico. The board also changes these...on highways you will see lots of shaft protections...as a user of shafts I LOVE that map...so fun:)

I have been in some battles (10%) where no one on the opposition has thunder protection. Completely foolish in my opinion, as Thunder and Rail can devastate so quickly. I almost always suit up with both and fire too. Only if enemy team doesn't have one of those turrets will I switch it out. I hate getting single shotted (if that is a real phrase).

Do I really have to convince people that Sledgehammer Rounds for Thunder is OP; if not OP, then unbalanced in a positive way for Thunder? Like seriously, it's letting you shoot a lot faster just for maybe a 100-250 average damage decrease. Why are people saying this alteration is trash?

Here's an example of one. It's not a good example of what I'm trying to convey but here it is.

Sledgehammer-OP.jpg

Deadmau5 was the Sledgehammer Thunder. Coupled with me healing him from time to time, he was able to get 37 kills and no deaths. While I was with him, I would look at how fast he took down unprotected enemies and enemies with double armour. It shoos almost like M4 Smoky with only about a 200 damage decrease per shot. He probably had Thunder M3.5 but let's assume he had M4. At mid-range, he would be doing about 830-900 damage on average per shot. If you put that side by side with an unaltered Thunder, the sledgehammer rounds would kill their opponent faster. The only thing that Sledgehammer really does is make you go out of the new Maximum Damage Range so you wouldn't be able to potentially one-shot unprotected M4 light hulls.

If stats aren't enough to convince you then just being a high rank and looking at what the high-rank Thunders are using, you'd notice something. 70% of high-rank Thunders I encounter have the Sledgehammer alteration. I wonder why that is? Maybe because they realise they get better results from it? Or maybe because they know it's an upgrade in the form of an alteration? I guess we'll never know.

In high-rank DMs, almost all the Thunders in there are Sledgehammers. They get to shoot faster but they lost a little bit of damage, that's a win for them since it means they can kill-steal more efficiently now.

Honestly, anytime a Sledgehammer Thunder starts shooting me from behind and I'm in the open, I just accept death. there's nothing I can really do being a melee or short ranged turret because the Thunder could just drive away from me while shooting me like a goddamn Smoky.

Players need to see that this is an upgrade. It helps in 1 v 1 supply fights because you can interrupt a Repair Kit's healing earlier and save yourself a shot compared to unaltered Thunder.
