Unlike Twins, Ricochet doesn't need any particular alteration to be effective. The long range alteration should be used for team battles in my opinion, the stock version for deathmatch battles. Plasma torch? For parkour maps, that's where I mainly find use of it.

Its effectiveness isn't confined to medium and heavy hulls, if you have what it takes Ricochet can easily do well on a Hornet / Wasp, although it may get pretty frustrating eventually due to low stability and protection.

is it just me or when i use the plasma torch alteration some of my shots hit but do no damage

it's really annoying because it costs me the kill and the guy kills me...

That also happens to me a lot.

Perhaps it could be a latency issue, but I'm not certain.

This apparently also happens with heavy Plasmagun for Twins.

Have you ever noticed sometimes that when a Ricochet is shooting at your tank that is perpendicular to the Ricochet, the shots, on your screen, would miss you totally but you still receive damage? That's basically here but reversed.

Ricochet's projectile speed is relatively quick. So it gets to the players fast enough for the servers to notice the objective contact and allow you to do damage. On the Ricochet's screen, they see that they're hitting you, yet on your screen, you see that the projectiles are completely missing you.

When you slow these projectiles down, it adds much more space for it to miss their targets. Try doing this with plasma Torch on a target driving perpendicular to you and you'd see that some of your shots impact them yet deal no damage, because it didn't really impact them on the server.

I've noticed many times where my Striker's missiles would impact the enemy on my screen yet deal no damage. I would know that to the server, those missiles didn't actually hit the enemy.

Slowing the projectiles runs the risk of you not landing a lot of your shots on the server. It's more meant for a melee-type approach since the closer you are, the less this problem will occur for Ricochet.

I actually saw a destabilized plasma user in battle this morning.

I see a few in Legend battle. Most Ricochets I encounter are either Stock or Minus-Field Stabilisation Ricochets. Beserk usage has gone up since the buff.

I don't think the destabilized plasma user that I saw did very well. And I don't think it was because of the alt, I think it was because he was just bad in general.

After I get some protection against Magnum I am thinking about getting the Berserk mod. Seems like it could be a wicked combo with the Viking OD.

Beserk with Viking's Overdrive is the same as Stock Ricochet with Viking's Overdrive.

The ones that change with Viking's Overdrive are:

Minus-Field Stabilisation: It fires less projectiles than Stock Ricochet but they travel further.

Plasma Torch: Does absolutely nothing to the firing rate or the projectile speed. If you're using this with Viking, it just acts as an instant refill of your energy bar.

I have 40% protection against ricochet yet I still feel like it is incredibly powerful?

If it makes you feel better, they'll use up maybe 60-80% of their ammo trying to destroy you depending on what hull you were using. So two people with Ricochet protection will overwhelm it.

And it is a short-range turret. Its DPM is high as it has to get close.

I've never mained Ricochet before, and these Ricochets I'm encountering at are quite strong. So I bought M2 Ricochet on my account to see how powerful this thing is in DM.

I'll be using it when it's 3/10. Trying it out now. For anyone who has M2 Ricochet around that rank, how is it? I'm planning on using it with Dictator.

The stock M2 Rico is quite good, not very OP neither UP. However, if you MU it 3 or more steps it becomes very powerful especially in DM battles. Mine is at M2.3 since and it can take out a Hornet M2 (under 5 MUs) in just 3 quick balls on DD. Most of players prefer it with Viking but I like it better with Dictator because of it's stability you can hardly miss any shot (Titan would be a good choice as well but I like the flexibility to move easily)

And if you MU it 6 times (which is not that expensive) it can even take out M3 Hornet/Wasp in 3 balls and M3 Medium hulls in just 5 quick balls with DD enabled. You shouldn't MU it more than that unless you're planning to get M3 later.

I am not very good in DM battles, my highest k/d in DM would be 24kills/1death it is with Rico M2.3  and Dictator M2.3 (Map :Sandal, Alt: MFS) I just camped on 1  side of the map while placing mines on both open ends and I got lucky with steal kills, most of my kills were passive rather than fighting head-on with full-health enemies. With Rico in DM you get a lot of passive and lucky kills (e.g you try to use ricochet effect on someone and luckily you get another kill just by hitting 1 ball).

Plus point, you can mess up Viking/Hornet/Wasp's aims better than smoky on Assault rounds given that you're aiming at their side (it is a constant push, unlike Smoky they can hardly retaliate back while one after another ball hits them)

Mine is M2 10/10 so it's slightly  more powerful than yours would be, but I am at Major.

Anyways with DD I'm dealing ~620 damage every shot, and crushing the M1 Mammoths that appeared on the Halloween map.

In regular battles, even if you have no drugs it's pretty powerful especially if you really focus on using the ricocheting ability.

Aside from that, if you ever come across a Viking with a non-melee turret it's essentially a guaranteed win (you don't even need drugs) because with a bit of skill the Viking will be sliding around like a fish on a chopping block (if you use Hunter/Dictator).

Ok, buyer's remorse is setting in, somewhat.  See, Ricochet seems to be rewarding, but it and Twins just isn't for me. This thing runs out of ammo much faster than I thought. It's amazing seeing these M3 Ricochets with seemingly endless ammo. Shoot so many projectiles into me, then turn and take care of my protected ally as if you had more than 50% of your ammo still remaining. I shoot 20 projectiles with Stock and 23 with MFS.

Was excited when I got this map. This thing is such cheese if you stay up top in the castle and shoot into the enemy base.

This one was with Wasp. And all those Ricochet-filled killfreeds I see at the beginning of some battles are starting to make sense now.

I expected a lot more protection modules than I saw. Another curse is aiming this thing at long range (MFS). I'm trying my best to maneuver and aim at the same time with Dictator and I miss a good couple of my shots in the process. And it didn't help that in that Polygon battle, I seemed to have been a magnet for my teammates because they kept bumping into me while I'm trying to turn corners or aim. At one point, I wasted 60% of my entire clip trying to get one enemy because bump-hungry allies. *shrugs*

I'll stick with Vulcan for now. I'll casually upgrade this to see how much more projectiles I can shoot with a full clip.

I am really amazed that you're not satisfied with these results.

To be honest, when I first used it I also had trouble running out of juice everytime. Take some time, you'll learn when to stop or take break between the attack so you can benefit the most. And I never used M3 Rico so I am not exactly sure how much more amo it has compared to the M2.3. With MFS it's reload is slower but I can't imagine to play without it.

I rarely use it now, since the DM missions are removed, but it was really fun. The most fun part was when a wasp/hornet/viking guy with melee turret approaches you desperately and you place a mine and fire at it's sides in such a way that it ends up tripping over the mine, it was really satisfying.

Teammates are sometimes really annoying,, I also face this issue with Gauss, sometimes when I've done more than 90% load in sniping mode a temamte shoves me and then enemy runs away before I could finish the shot aaaagrrrrrh

With Rico it was more like, you're firing at the enemy and a teammate with melee turret jumps in and finish the kill while blocking your projectiles.

I love this turret so much, it's been my favorite from the moment I got the m3 two years ago.

Unfortunately, it's not fun to use it at all when 50% of the enemies on any team are highly protected against it. Modules man... -_-

Hello everyone,

I'm willing to buy Firebird or Ricochet as my next turret. Can you please tell me the game modes that Ricochet is useful & how to use it in them.?  :)

Having only used Firebird at low ranks I couldn't really say, but Ricochet is insane in just about every game mode. Take JGR for example - I can go 1 v 1 with the enemy JGR and win if I use full drugs and either Hunter OD or Titan without OD.

Interesting - I can only remember running out of ammo once - no joke.

Me too think buying Ricochet is better. Thanks for helping me  :)

Is your M2 fully upgraded? I bought M3 recently and, yeah, I almost never out with MFS

I can second that. A slower energy consumption means you can spam the spacebar for longer. This is also the case for alterations such as Incendiary Mix and Shock Freeze. This is why I always recommend to people that Dictator-Ricochet and MFS is a match made in heaven. You need to be pinpoint accurate, which is why light hulls don't work. Of course, this means that you need to be at least moderately fast, so Titan and Mammoth are out of the question. Hunter and Dictator work wonders with Rico. Viking, ... not so much. You'll get slapped left, right, and center by Railguns, leaving you unable to defend against them even at close range.

There should be a new alteration for Ricochet: The shot gets more powerful after bouncing off a surface. This would encourage tankers to use the bounce effect more often

Love the idea.  However, the short range means that you can barely bounce any shots.  Either the buff will have to be so powerful it compensates for how situational the alteration is, or the negative has to be really small, like a 10% slower reload or 20% reduction in impact force.
