Maybe noobs find it hard to bear the truth I presume.... As a matter of fact it IS stupid. It gets 100x more stupid when you surpass the ranks around brigadier where such a run with shaft won't get you anything but a very NICE D/L (something around 0.01 ). This is exactly why I mentioned earlier that such shafters will go extinct at higher ranks because unlike the gameplay is certainly at 2 different levels in both of the ranks. Where in smaller ranks you can almost do anything you wish with beginners who can't even turn their turrets/lack skills. Also why in the world would one want to go attack with shaft? When there are so many other turrets better suited for the same job? It's like attacking With elephant/freeze in a large map. That's why it can simply be called stupidity. True shaft might take some skill to be used effectively, but you should keep in mind that the skill ceiling for it is really really low.

Yeah and the skill ceiling for rail is really high? :meh:

And just to show that you are wrong, when I reach brigadier Ill do some great plays with shaft to show you that you cant be more wrong :p

my point was that it is utter stupidity that is causing someone to go attacking with wasp shaft or hornet not that you can camp at one place the whole game and rack up some points with wasp shaft which is pretty much the most boring thing for me in this game. ( you guys may have different views and I respect them.) but still.....

6. The laser update. The laser really intensifies the shooting competition between shafts and rails and must be hidden well enough to trap enemy tanks

You have to find a point that views at most a small part of the battlefield, then turn on your sight, scan, and shoot immediately. Then move to somewhere else and see if you can find your prey. At far distances, you can only see with the sight, but you only have seconds before another sniper sees your laser. I find it works best when you have other friendly tanks "in the field" and you just shoot left or right of them to tell them where their targets are. They can flush the snipers and hopefully not get killed in the process. One guy was SO effective that he would just pop up and they would see him and stick their heads out for me to shoot.

It's hard to spot some tanks, but others (pink, white, orange) are asking for it unless every part of their tank is out of sight.

My next paint is going to be "digital" to help me survive as a captain among brigadiers!

I've had some good battles against 1-star and 2-star, but some are so tough (paint?) you need three shots, and you won't get the time. I finally had to switch to Titan and just take the punishment while I weaken them for the other general ranks to finish off.

(That and potting the Isidas who are supporting their own snipers...sometimes getting them in their backyard.)

Suitable map, and KS...

Few players' biggest enemy is shaft(some haters change something) you will see most of the shaft protections just an add of paints.

Sometimes it sucks playing with unaware players.

I was shaft/viking on Monte Carlo.

1) I would use mines/sacrifice myself to prevent a player jumping in to the flag. I stopped 4 attempts, and only one got past me. Everybody else waits until the enemy has the flag and then spend minutes trying to slow down the capture or maybe get it back. While I'm stopping jumpers, railguns cross the bridge unmolested and kill me from behind.

2) Then I would go to the "post" and keep everybody from crossing the bridge, only to have 3 players unable to stop the "jumpers" now! Worse, I would line up a shot on the enemy and get bumped out of my shot!

3) Then I would lumber left to across from the enemy flag, and shoot down the enemy line to stop their jumpers before they get started.

NOT ONE of the other three shafts would come out from behind their barricades to do any of those 3 crucial things. Did we need three shafts trading potshots across the gulf?? Despite the best efforts of our three jumpers, we lost 15-12. Before I arrived, the team was 9-5, and we got it to 12-12 before chaos took its toll and for all my efforts, we could not keep our flag. I was 49-10, and one other player had 50 kills. The rest? Meh.

UPDATE: my next team lost 2-25, and at one point, I was the only member of the whole team still playing. :(

The "barricade" play can be your friend if you are a sneaky hornet, because you can jump over undetected and travel down the battle line, killing folks who are looking straight ahead and never see you coming. I occasionally have to shoot "up" from the post when an enemy starts going down the line. Although railguns can do this, they are not as accurate at elevation.

This has happened to me so many times, almost as annoying as having a hammer running around flipping teammates. So many rails, shafts, and even smokey's trading shots for no real reason in a close CTF. They're just trying to bump their DL's.

How many (um) nincompoops do this on Polygon CP without knowing that "points" are fine, but the crystals come from WINNING, even by a single digit. You have to jump in when the color isn't yours!

On my 2-25 MC-CTF loss, my D/L was 5.58  -- not much consolation. Nor was playing "keep away" by holding the enemy flag for 6 minutes til they came to kill me. Sometimes it helps NOT to capture when it is a runaway game...

I normally take to defending the flag at Monte Carlo, because I find it fun, challenging and I can humiliate other players(specially them druggers when they cross over from that space with all three power ups).

At the beginning of the game, I first move to secure the flag and see if anyone is coming for it so I can block them and send them falling to self destruct. If the top is secure enough, I pick one target before moving to the lower level to pick off any snipers or tanks moving in. I don't stick around too long and I'm only around till the danger is warded off, and then I move back up. I hang around the flag for more time than below because there's more danger on top.

If ever I find someone coming from below, I first check the situation at where I am, that is with the flag. If no one is about to jump over to steal it and things look clear above, I just hang around near the flag at the slope connecting the two levels so I can quickly get back to the flag if there's trouble. This also enables me to pick off lower level targets more easily.

While I'm at the flag, I sort of hide behind the slope which you jump to get to the enemy side, and right at the edge, it gives me plenty of cover and keeps me alive longer

shockingly wasp and shaft are really good but mammoth is the best for it with titan being close to it for second

Heavy hulls being the best? When they move so damn slow? Naaaaah. I'm all for maneuverability and being quick, not being a sitting duck. Hornet suits my playing style but I feel Hunter deserves that first place

Yup! It seems Shaft-Hornet can still work even at my rank! Although Hornet M3 would be great...

And for all the Shaft haters out there, Shaft on a Hornet CAN be used as an assault weapon if used right. Quicksniping is fun :D

Especially on Mammoths.

I prefer Dictator for that.

Hornet always looks to me so light.

Did  you capture flags?

Yes, all of them (2 Flags)

Half of the enemy team were M3 Thunder/Hornets, so my Rustle provided adequate protection. All I needed to do were to eliminate the Freeze defenders and just grab the flag and hope for the best.

I had 2 other M3 Shaft buddies covering my butt while escaping, and 2 M2 Isidas who were always there to heal me. They always healed me first.

Good teammates are the best!

hi there fellow shafters. I'm sure most of you here are already loving me big time. ( I love you all too  :D ). Anyway since a long time my fellow buddy dark.kido has been eagerly asking me to stop the hate over shaft. ( which I'm pretty sure I wont be able to get over with) but I have been thinking recently through his point that arguing here wont do any good :D. I will be leaving this thread ( but of course I'll post once in a while or else I know you guys will miss me :D ). Thanks everyone for providing me with valuable feedback over hundreds of my posts filled with love .

For a final price of advice, let me give a brief description about myself.

I was here even before the first rebalance was even here. I was her when shaft was SO OP that it could one shot nearly every medium hull even with a m1 or m0 and like everyone of you over here I was sooooo fond of my shaft and enjoyed using it to the highest extent. Like all of you I faced those shaft haters, and I too had the same reply that most of you guys are pulling at me to fight those anti shafters. My career with shaft went on to the rank around marshal where I currently have a m4 shaft. ( to dfoofnik, kid you simpky don't know about me........ ). The thing I realized then was that my skills over other turrets were minimal or nothing at all. ( yes I only used shaft till that rank and occasionally Viking freeze). I know it may not be most of your dream but, it was my dream to join a good clan and join the cybersports section in the latter stages of my career. My dream was totally ruined by shaft when I realized that I simply couldn't operate a railgun ( which Is intact a basic need if you are planning to join a good clan in tanki). That is when I decided to give up and start over my tanki career again. I know how much bad it sounds for you guys( I have been exactly there hearing the same thing ) but unfortunately with all my experience I believe that rail needs tons more skills to operate than shaft and that is the simplest of truth. My advice for you would be do keep using shaft but only at the risk of knowing it certainly WILL affect you'd skills and if you're planning to join a good clan or starladder in the future I suggest not using shaft at all. I am sure most of you have tons of pointa to rack up against my post but believe it or not what I said was the truth that I have gained through my experience. ( I have more than 3500000+ xp altogether in all my accounts) <----- sorry for showing off :D.

Good luck and if you need any help feel free to ask for it :D
