Shaft used to be great, but once all the whiny railguns kept crying foul, tanki had to keep them happy and put the laser sight on it so all could see where you are hiding. Half the challenge in fighting against them was trying to find them! It also has bugs now thanks to the mouse control being introduced! If that had happened to Rail there would have been a major uproar

SO . . . . .

Last night . . .

Snowy Serpuhov and me and my lonesome against three.  First off, I'll be the first to admit, Shaft is not a weapon suited to front line engagement, it has a role, support, and specific targeting of problem enemies.  Read my other posts sometime about it if you're inclined.  I digress of course.  The truth of the matter is simple, Shaft, by itself, against three is simply a rough fight, and I normally check out of fights like that, real fast, but, this time I decided I'd stay, maybe some folks would join the team, it had just restarted.  I made a b-line for their flag, grabbed it, took it, bam, captured, went back, did it again.  Apparently the other team was hanging out in the garage shopping or something.  They finally begin to appear.  First a wasp/firebird, then a hunter/rail, then a viking/shaft.  For the next 8 minutes I kept them AT BAY, and mind you, I DON'T drug, I on occasion might throw up a shield and I will use my speed up when running flags, but I never saw speed or mines as drugs anyways.  IF I pick something up along the way, well, that's different, it's chance.  The other team was drugging.  I eventually got some company in the last 5 or 6 minutes ofthe game, and mercifully, it was rough, BUT, I kept them from my flag for about 8 MINUTES ALONE.  Yes, thank you, thank you, hold the applause, no, really, you're too kind.

Seriously, why am I bragging?  Well, sure, feels nice to let the world know their rail and firebirds can suck, AND DO, when facing a skilled shaft, but the point is HOW I DID IT.  You see, up close, I would have been hamburger helper, useless, just target practice, my rate of fire and my damage would have ensured that anyone with a DA would have me for breakfast.  I had to get smart and use the shafts power to my advantage.  What are those powers?  Well, that's easy, massive damage and long distance.  I was lucky, no doubt, I was red team, I had the high ground.  I drove right out onto the left edge of the raised buildings and started surveying the scenery below, position your turret just right and you can nearly see the entire map ahead of you, left and right.  If you scan with left and right constantly, you can basically cover everything and never miss a movement.  Everytime someone made a break to cross the map, I popped them.  Sometimes they when up in fireball, sometimes they kept going.  When they kept going I knew the point of ingress likely to be taken and I would move to cover and catch them on the way in.  Sometimes they died, sometimes they didn't, but that meant if they didn't they were still on the clock for cool down, so I knew the flag was being run by a ragged and beat up unit.  I let them run.  I took up a spot always where I could see where they had to cross in the open, and just waited, and sure as heck, boom, they were dead and I was driving real fast to go get my flag back.  Once they tried to double team me (which in retrospect would have been their best option, they were trying to pick me off from a distance while one runner bum rushed the base), but a mine or two and a lucky DP in the bushes in the red base meant that failed too.

So the lesson here is, even one against many, if you take your shaft and force people to play to the strengths of it, you can hold off an enemy for quite a while.  It was nerve wracking mind you, it's not an easy fight, and I play to have fun, not just win all the time, and I can safely say this was an exercise in concentration and tiny margins of error, and it wasn't fun, per say, but it can be done.  Afterwards it was fun, I got to see the scorecard and I basically took the entire pool, small as it was mind you, but there was a great satisfaction in winning that fight.  Shafts are far from helpless, and for all you shaft players out there, just remember, play up to the power of shaft, use it's advantages, and you'll be very plesantly surprised just how well you do, even all by yourself (though like I said, I wouldn't recommend this game play regularly, it's just too hard and the other team was getting wise to how to beat me and they would have figured it out, ie, all of them rush my base, and it would happen to you too).

And as a sidenote, ironically, the shaft on the other team was the only unit that I couldn't get rid of easily, they were pretty decent about using cover and finding the right place to try to cover their flag runner, so kudos to whoever that was.

Alright, story over, as you were.

They can only dent my Mammoth, and when Wasp; they can't keep up aiming properly.

Shafts can only win, if they aim for enemies right infront of them... not even considering they'll need to aim for Wasps or Hornets to make a kill.

In other words; why use Shaft, if there's Railgun on the market.

Correction, twins are the most important turret in CTF after freeze.  I can completely change a game with mammo twin combo.

Shaft? Eww..

I cant stand shafts because they are worthless in a CTF game especially when like 3 or 4 of them join your team... they just sit there and go for kills clueless as to what is going on around them, its so stupid.  They also aren't very good at DM or TDM at higher ranks since they can only really one shot wasps and hornets at that point.

Shaft is for noobs, hardly see them anymore at my rank and when I do I'm sure to take them out first.  In fact, I'll intentionally hunt down shafts when they are playing in a battle room I'm in.  Can't stand em, thinks its hilarious when I keep killing them and they leave.

stop hating on us shafters. On  serpnov I sometimes guard the flag and if the reds escape with it i go out there charge and then snipe the sucker who thought he could get it. You just don't know how utilize shaft to its full potential. Don't hate on us. We do way more then just "point and shoot". we group together and when we do....you might as well give up. I don't know about you guys but during the tankers sale i'm getting m2 shaft and thats final. downvote me. i won't care because i love shaft and we shafters do alot of heavy work. give us some credit.

Add both good and bad, but carefully choose the ones where you didn't perform well. If you find them worth a discussion, put them up:)

I see these samples at my rank and higher as well. But there are some wise guys who use Lead at around your rank and mine as well. Still, even Lead or Dirty won't get most of my victims much chance of survival given that I got an MU'd M2 Shaft. Now with the new update, even fewer of my victims will survive one shot. As for me, the only way an enemy Shaft can take me out in one shot is with double power. Winter paint has proved to be a major help for me:)

hahaha lol i still have the habit of using lead with my m2 hornet..habit really...sentimental reasons..though I know im doing it in vain.  :D

Railgun is very strong, but if theres a shaft on your team than the tides could flip dramatically. Railguns also have a delay before they fire which makes it easy to knock off their aim with almost any gun. so if you love railgun im not hating on you, im just making a point that shaft is strong too... oh btw shaft is cheaper than railgun

I'm torn between which medium hull to get during sale for my shaft, M2 Hunter or M2 Viking.

Which is a better combo?, I would really like advise and opinions of those who have used these 2 combos and give me the pros and cons of using either hunter/shaft or viking/shaft.

I know M4 viking have way more armor than M4 hunter almost 50 more I think but both have almost equal health at that level while M4 Hunter's speed is 10.0 while M4 viking's speed is 9.0, but M3 hunter is clearly superior so which is a better option?

Both are excellent choices, so figure out what your playstyle with Shaft is. If you like to stick to one sniping spot and only need to move to peek in and out of cover, Viking's better. However, if you like to be more mobile, switching sniping spots as you go, take Hunter.

I personally use M2 Hunter. With a few micro upgrades, M2 Hunter-Shaft can be even deadlier than M2 Viking-Shaft due to its high mobility, but you'll need to be quicker on your feet in sniper duels.

Not 50, more like 20-30. What game modes do you play? What is your current garage?

My main shaft combo is M2 hornet/ M1 shaft (I'll get M2 shaft during sales) and like to be very aggressive while playing with shaft like sniping moving even flag capture, I do camp if the situation needs me to, I need a hull that can help me as much as hornet does with speed during dog fights while giving good enough armor and health, I'm also an XP player.

My garage currently is:

M2 Rail

M2 isida

M2 hornet

M1 Shaft

M1 FireBird

Fractue, Dirty and Lead paints.

and I also have 160k crys right now.

Don't get Shaft. You already have a long range turret, and don't have a medium range turret. I'd suggest Smoky but you aren't on the required rank. So go for Thunder if you want to.

Shaft is my main gun and I'm really good at it so no way I'm not gonna get it, I have enough crys to get another turret.

M1 Shaft in an M0 Game can hold back 5 enemies from capping, and can go on the OFFENSIVE. In an M1-M2 game, you will be reduced to your support role. But you can get the most kills on your team easily with a good spot.

Don't argue. I have over 2 years of Shaft Experience (even if I'm only WO2) and 2000+ kills with it.

Lol I love to scare enemy railguns because if you hit the tip of their barrel they suffer damage. they usually forget us shafts can hit their barrels.

UPDATE:  I now have m2 shaft. Time to dominate!  B)
