Purchased Shaft yesterday during the sale - Is it worth maxing shaft out to 20/20 and buying the alterations? I mean I have it as 5/20 at the moment and the damage it deals with DD is around 5400, getting decent kills with it too.

assault emitters barely makes any difference in most modes but it is very good in DM (and i suppose juggernault even though i haven't tried it there)

heavy capacitors is good for punching through protection.. although I'm not sure that's needed as i rarely see protection

if you don't intent to get it to 20/20 asap then you hsould get it as that'll be the only way to kill medium hulls in one shot (not counting drugs as they can be cancelled out by the enemie's drugs)

but if you're gonna get it to 20/20 very soon then... maybe not. but you might still want it as it'll make it take a longer time before your laser appears.

Will take a LONG time to get any turret to M3 20/20.  Especially since speed-ups are not worth the investment.

But if you went from m3 0/20 to m3 5/20 in a few days, it sounds as though "money is no object".

Can you upgrade anything else while also fast-forwarding shaft improvements?

I guess I won't be buying assault emitters then since I would not play DM with shaft.

The second alteration sounds good since the drugs run out pretty quick and without DD it only does 1k damage, sometimes around 660 to someone who has shaft protection.

I MU'ed to 5/20 during the sale, doesn't cost that much of the crystals.

So during the sale I managed to purchase M3 Ricochet & Shaft - I am debating which one to 20/20 first. I realised there are barely any ricochet protections during any battle but at the same time the shots run out very soon. I could 20/20 any turret during 50% sale which is next month.

The upgrades get progressively more expensive and take much longer for each next step.

Are you using speed-ups?  Even with 50/75 sale on MU/speedup you spend more crystals for the same effect (except you get it quicker).

It's not cost-effective to use speed-ups.

You are better off upgrading all your garage items at same time during a sale.  One MU per item per sale.

You get way more value for your crystals.

Yeah I mostly use Speedups during 50/70 sale. At the moment I have got each module and turret upgrading to the next MU, which takes 3/5 days to complete 1 MU.

I just don't understand what is the point of MU sale when it costs the same or even a little bit more expensive? I stopped buying bundles long time ago now so I either earn crystals in battles or get lucky and get 10k/25k crystals in the container.

This is so true. I got some very cheap M4's this way. It's also a good strategy to save up crystals; you earn way more than you spend during a sale even if you upgrade everything by one step.

I skipped this 25% sale though, it has to be 50% for me.

Buyers.  The speed-ups give them OP equipment for their rank very quickly.  They don't need to wait for next sale (and thus rank up) before getting multiple MUs on same item.

I do 25%-35% sale if the MU is 1-5/10 or 1-10/20 or 1-6/15 (modules).  Higher MUs I wait for 50% sale.

Else they never get to M4.

Unless it is an emergency - like upgrading to 10/10 on M1 before the M3s are unlocked. Once the M3 is unlocked you don't get the M2 for free.

Dunno about you all, and I know I know I don’t drug, but honestly, kills are getting to be hard to come by, even with my m4 setup, Played yesterday and it’s clear folks have figured out out how to game the matching system. It’s tiresome. Hardly any maps I like to play, 234 players on the opposition, and clearly organized. Same players on opposing team match Ftermatch. It’s getting tiresome. Single shorting even wasps now is a toss up. I’m growing tired of this.

Ohh you'll be suprised how many MU's you can do in a year with just 50% sales.

We had lots of Crazy Weekends with 50% sales on the microupgrades.

Truth be told, while I don't see my M4 as useful as it used to be, the MU path was not as painful as you might think.  splitter is right on that.

for shaft it is an emergency especially if you're a legend.

cause if it's not m4 you won't be one shotting the m4 medium hulls which are everywhere in legend battles..

so unless his shaft is m4 it won't be half as effective. even 1 MU less (19/20) won't be enough.

Oh crude!  I've been upgrading my Thunder with that in mind, and some hulls too.  Damn.  All that money lost.  You serious?  Once unlocked you don't get the level up free?

The issue happens when you unlock an m-level 2 levels above the one you currently have.

m0 8/10.... m2 unlocks... no point in upgrading that m0 anymore - you have to wait until you have crystals for m2

Same with m1 8/10... once m3 unlocks you wait until you can afford M3 - no incremental steps through m2.

May not be big issue for many - but - for me this came about when the modules were changed recently.

This account had Cherry paint - which after conversion - has M1 Vulcan protection.  At legend, I can no longer upgrade that and needed to save up for M3 module = 250k/125k (on sale).

Oh FFS, damn, I totally skipped that one too!  I've been upgrading an m2 module!  I'm SO SICK of their tom-foolery and subtle games.  Wasted so much crystals then on all these little upgrades.  I'm done even posting for now, SO PISSED OFF I'm gonna start saying crap that will get me banned otherwise.

Hold on - so long as you are upgrading an m2 module you are safe.  Even though m3 is unlocked, it is the highest version you can purchase.

So keep upgrading the m2, and you can eventually get the m3 for free.

My problem was the Vulcan module I ended up with from Cherry was M1, and I was already legend.

My lower account ended up with quite a few single m1 modules after the separation, so I had to ensure they would all get to m2 before I unlocked M3 - else I'd be stuck at m1.

Ah yeah same here, I got Freeze protection at 7/10 on M1. They finally nerfed it but the last few weeks were hard.

I were just about to buy Freeze protection M3 but decided not to after the nerf.

I just tried out M4 shaft in the test server, I kinda enjoyed it but was struggling with the controls!

I tried both mouse and keyboard controls in scope mode, I felt like mouse controls were a bit easier if the target is moving fast. But there's is a drawback though, there's a significant lag between the crosshairs and the laser scope, which can be a little bit frustrating at times.

I'm not experienced in using Shaft, so I'm seeking your opinion guys. Which controls are better in general?

I never learned to use the mouse control, I do pretty well with the keyboard anyway.

From what I read, mouse control gives you better overall perception of your environment when in scope mode, but also can have these lag issues you mentioned, trading a good for an evil. Your pick.

I am usually very agressive and moving around with my Shaft/Hunter, so good control of my turret is necessary for me when I jump around to avoid flipping, not sure if it is manageable with mouse controls, as I said never tried.

I get the delay aswell through browser or client.

Try the Standalone Flash Player. If mouse controls work properly, they are much better than the standard controls.

Try to hide the laser while in scope mode. Hold the right mouse button and you can view around in scope mode without the laser moving, super useful, you can do the same thing with the camera controls aswell; moving the camera around while the turret stays still.

I use the keyboard (my set up doesn't work well with mouse controls), but have been successful (IMO) with it. I am not a huge camper. I do have the heavy capacitor alt. In higher ranks I find that I rarely charge it all the way up however. I prefer to deliver faster shots (50-75% charge) with no laser visible. Pick up a DD and you will wreck a defense on CTF. After each shot I survey the field to notice who has "noticed" me and decided to burn, freeze, or hammer my back side...Whoever that is I deal with them and then back to scope.

As others have said, when your laser is on, hide it behind nearby obstacles/barriers so it isn't seen as easily. If you camp much you will get hunted down. Also let mines be your friend. I try to lay them strategically every time the cool down period is over.
