It's all about learning the reload time of each turret. In my experience, the turrets most immune to this are smoky and vulcan. Facing off with thunder, it would be better to do it as close as possible so splash damage is self-inflicted. Chances of winning against a bad Rico or Twins player than against a good one - its just about where you are positioned around them. Firebird and Freeze would get you before you can get them since short range is their special area.

As for Shaft and Railgun, it gets fun going round in circles trying to kill them at point blank before they do you. Long reload time gives you an idea of when they will fire their next shot, which is usually immediately after reload is complete. At that point consider changing your direction of revolution just before they fire that shot so that they get fooled into firing away from you. Shooting the hull at the corners may also help divert their shots so you get an advantage.

Um..you forgot to mention Twins...doing that circle-attack against Twins as a Shafter....that's utter suicide if the Twins user can manipulate his/her tank well.

You da shaft pro! How's it like fully upgraded?

Shaft M4 feels so much better and lighter! The fact that you can one shot most Vikings is an added bonus too! The 3 second reload time really helps with just blasting people with arcade shots XD. Kill stealing on this baby has never been easier.

Going against Twins is suicide man, suicide, especially when they got a Viking or Hunter or heavier hull and a good anti-Shaft paint! Considering most Twins users just blindly shoot all over the map, it's hard getting rid of them at close range. The only best thing to do would be to keep running around them and switching direction time and again so you at least get to inflict as much damage as possible while still in arcade mode.

Shaft is one of my favorite weapons along with twins. I have m1 shaft with m1 Viking, and on highway, brest, and Monte Carlo maps I get 1st place easily with it most of the time. I think my least favorite mode with shaft is DM, since you can't be aware of your surroundings while using the scope. I'd like to know why some people don't like it, besides, every weapon has a strength and a weakness depending on which map you are on, which kinds of tanks you are fighting with and the hull you have. There is no 'bad' weapon.

This is the one turret I have a hugely hard time squaring off with at short range, I agree.  You can't get a consistent "pop" like from rico to know when to release a charged shot while getting shot yourself.

I was wondering when and where it it a good idea to use a light hull with Shaft. Since we tend to hang back and snipe, the extra mobility is less needed, so is there ever a reason?

It's all opinions, but mine is, NEVER use Wasp, and Hornet is excellent.  I know it sounds strange, but there is world of difference between them, if you're gonna go light hull, go Hornet.

Why use a light hull?  If you're the kind of Shafter that camps but likes to get to the action to camp, Hornets are excellent at shuttling you around quickly, and they can take a hit, so if you're max health and in the process of changing locations, you won't die, which is generally a good thing.  If you're an aggressive Shafter, then they're great too, especially defending, you can line up a shot on someone taking the flag and pop them a second time by quickly moving to a location you know they have to take on the way back.

I have found that if your aim at a shaft's top part of the turret you get a garunteed 1-hit kill, even if the opponent has a mammoth and you have a m0 shaft. i 1-hit like a pro.  B)

Not true. Damage is uniform no matter what part of your enemy you hit. There are no "headshots", so to speak.

You were likely shooting a damaged Mammoth.
