And people still don't use Shaft protection. Even with only 9 MUs, M3 Shaft is a killing machine. ^_^

Actually, I'd have to say you might be wrong, all last weekend I played and lots of them, the flag raiders, seem to have it, Izzies especially, but rails and smokeys too.  Thunder types, not so much, and really not on twin or ricos, but I had a dickens of a time the other day, game after game, all the raiders were chocked to the gills with shaft protection.

It's pretty uncommon for me personally to encounter enemies with any significant Shaft protection, and even then it's mostly from Winter. Jade and Picasso are still quite rare in the battles I play, so I guess I've just been more lucky.

hunter or viking m4?

For Shaft purposes, I think most people would prefer M4 Viking since it has better protection, a lower profile, and its speed is still decent. Personally, I'd use Hunter, but that's because I like speed.

Best thing about shaft - you can make druggers really really angry. I been called noob hundreds of times, because most people play with viking in max rank. Not everyone have fully MU-d it nor have protection against it - which means 1 hit(even with double armor activated) with double damage fully charged shaft(don't have to be full if you know your enemies MU level). Which means, NO REPAIR for them. I was also thanked, that I made some guy use lesser repairs and save them for tournament ...

I have also hornet m4, tried it with shaft, really didnt like it. For weapon you camp and use scope alot, you need to have some armor to survive those hammers, rails. Will get viking m4 when next sale comes, but for now, just titan.

Or Titan, but I abhor Mammy-Shaft.

It's the epitome of a lazy, kill-obsessed tool who plays no role on the team and wastes space.

Oh really? With Mammy-Shaft I can still provide cover to my teammates by destroying enemies, destroy anyone trying to capture my team's flag or control point(s), or even block off certain paths in a map by eliminating/blocking anyone who goes by. But even then, why would you be OK with Titan but not with Mammoth? They're pretty similar.

I'm OKAY with being mobile. :P

Other than that, I see no differences.

So in short: "I can camp and be a wall." is your contribution?

And just to clarify: I prefer Viking, but Titan M1 is more readily available at the moment. I simply prefer it over M1 Mammoth.

Alright. But even though you can move around better, aren't your contributions the same? Don't you still cover your teammates and protect your flag?

Okay, so we both aim to make the same contributions in team battles. But I guess you despise me 'cause I like using Mammoth instead of a lighter hull. At this point you're pretty much saying, 'I abhor your combination because I can move faster than you!'

Uh, what? Where did you get the idea that I treat an object in a flash game like a son? Did I come off to you as insulted? As perturbed, maybe? I mean, dude, it's fine by me if you keep on abhorring a hull, I was just trying to tell you what I do with the 'vile thing' known as Mammoth equipped. that's it. But seriously though, 'abhor' is a pretty strong word, and I think if you care enough to abhor something in this game you might be taking it a bit too seriously...

Your reaction to me calling Mammoth slow, for one.

And the fact you replied with an essay. I never asked what your preference was, I just stated if I had a choice between the two I'd go with Titan because it's a little faster.

An essay? A paragraph that took me less than five minutes to type is an essay? Yeesh. Basically I replied in the first place 'cause you said that people who used the Mammoth/Shaft were people who just camped and went for mindless kills. But after this dismal argument it appears we have the same roles in battles, regardless of the hull. I have no issue with your preferences. Your preference is fine. I just wanted to defend mine, that's it.

Mhm, but that requires a driver with more than two out of five cognitive functions. Which, with you and a few others as an exception, are rare traits out of most Shafts.

The main reason you don't see Shafts above the middle ranks, and I'll be frank here, is because those are the ranks where the game separates the cream from the crap. On those ranks Shafts are switched out in favor of Railguns, Ricochets, Vulcans, and Twins users.

Or at least that's what I've seen mostly, I'm sure at your rank it becomes more popular.

In my experience, Mammoth-Shaft's utility mostly lies in the fact that it's unlikely that it will be dislodged from its camping spot and can basically shut down entire portions of the map (hard to be counter-sniped), but it's not capable of changing positions very well and is more of a dead weight if nobody comes into the killzone. There's no disputing that maps like Lost Temple, Monte Carlo, and Highways are basically giant Shaft killzones, where you don't need to change spots to get kills, so Mammoth-Shaft is highly useful there.

However, it loses utility on maps where you won't be as likely to have opponents waltz into your line of sight consistently. I like medium (occasionally light) hulls with Shaft because I dislike waiting around and you have the ability to change positions if the hunting isn't good in your current spot, allowing you to be more active in battle rather than just sitting in scope mode all the time.

For the most part, I'd rather have a good Viking or Dictator with Shaft instead of a Mammoth simply because they can have a larger presence on the battlefield, but I appreciate Mammoths in certain maps or in certain situations. It's a cheesy combination, sure, but it's cheesy because it works.

Shaft in a long range map? Taking everybody out before they know what hit them?

Can't blame them - there were about 2 Rail/Vikings that I'm pretty sure targeted me on purpose. Even teamed with two people (Vulcan and Twins, Twins changed to Rail/Hornet) and one Thunder/Hornet begging to team with me . I didn't do too shabby, probably the best DM Tournament I've played so far. Even after 1 shotting many times, no one changed to Shaft protection. And the guy who had it was a Hornet - still one hit for me.

The weapons i fear the most ranked from highest to lowest using shaft are:

  1. Freeze - if ones behind u might as well give up
  2. Firebird - well it kills fast but at least it doesn't freeze you.
  3. Ricotchet - The gun will totally make aiming hard.

U got it right !

Shaft against freeze in close range is so hopeless, that even double armor or protection module is pointless. U just cant turn you´re hull fast enough.

Agree with others too- firebird kills too fast, consider shaft slow hullspeed and rico is worst of aimknockers .
