Is autocannon really a good buy? I am thinking of getting either this alteration or firebird m3.

firebird's compact fuel tank is the choice , autocannon is great and all but it doesn't hold a candle to compact fuel + it will save you crystals,

unless you personally enjoy playing smoky of course.

Nothing can hold a candle to compact fuel tanks TBH.

While I agree that compact tanks is crazy for the firebird, comparing smoky autocannon with firebird compact tanks is an apples and oranges comparison. I do not prefer the melee turrets in general. I like the game play and flexibility of midrange turrets and the longer range turrets best. It is fun to play with firebird and compact tanks some, it honestly doesn't compare to me to using Rico, Vulcan, Shaft, Thunder in the arena of fun. Not saying firebird isn't a great turret, just find what you enjoy using and get the best alt for that turret.

Incendiary Mix eats everything for lunch, including Compact Tanks.

I've tried that with M4 Firebird in the Test Server. I was met with thicc disappointment at how long I have to shoot them for. In a No supply battle, this could wreck but with supplies, it could wreck but just a good bit less.

I've also experienced some Firebirds who had it and they couldn't wreck anyone with it. Meanwhile, a Compact Tanks Firebird who was on the guy's same team was dominating...as usual.

Statistically, you should not need many seconds of direct exposure to roast most enemy tanks. It is almost the opposite of the compact tanks strategy of spray and run. It is spray and stay...no afterburn, but also no other melee turret dishes out a higher DPS than the incendiary alt for firebird. I will be buying this and the triple shot shaft alt in 24 hours and report back soon:) Can't wait!

i love smokey , its a great mix of damage and reload , i started out with m1 and eventually ended up with m3 , then alterations came , i started with the cheap and cheerful one called Assault Rounds and i was very impressed , its great for knocking the dreaded shaft off aim and ruins strikers lethal rockets , i later invested in the Auto cannon alteration during the christmas 2018 sales and that is just lethal ok it deals less damage during the standard shots but you get like 4 sometime more critical's in the space of say 30-40 seconds , its a must have for any tanker that thrives smashing the enemy left , right and centre , a real rage quit turret  :D

Why does it take 3 smoky hits to destroy viking when it has DD, seems really OP. This is WITHOUT critical hit, with it it can even take just 1 hit. Thunder takes 2 DD hits to destroy viking, and it has almost twice as slow a reload.

And this isn't with the stronger smoky alteration, because if it was, there would be no criticals to speak of. Yes, smokies with criticals destroy viking with same upgrade level with 3 hits when having double damage. Shouldn't it be 4 and then 3 with the alteration for balance sake?

1)  You've answered your own question - DD makes your tank 2x as powerful. Would normally take ~ 6 shots.  After 2nd shot hit RK, or use DA or hide.  If a tank sits there and lets another hit it 3 times and does nothing about it - that Viking deserves the death

2) What alteration do you consider the "stronger" one?

Please nerf smokey. It's too overpowered. Comparing to its brother turret, thunder, smokey has faster reload speed, critical shots, no self damage, and some power on impact that can easily knock off a rail's aim. But on the backside, smokey has a few disadvantages. Low damage and hard aiming. Giving smokey to noobs was a joke, hhaha. Now it's not that funny. Now try to play fire firebird/freeze/isida. You will get crushed by even smokey-wasps, not even talking about titans. Smokey should get a longer reload speed or/and less damage and less chance of critical shot (which is really about 1 to 4).

Critical chance for smoky is 1-in-5 (20%) at best - the highest m-level.  Less than 20% down at m0, m1, m2...

Does less damage than Thunder but fires more often - similar DPS - just different style.

You mention no self-damage.  That also comes with no splash damage.

Every Thunder could have the same thing by buying the alteration.  But guess what - they don't. Because being able to do splash damage far outweighs the times you will damage yourself.

Now one thing you did not mention was the smoky incendiary alteration.  THAT is OP.  Does more damage overall than cristical, and requires two different modules to protect against.

Been enjoying the autocannon alt on the m4 smoky against teams with very few smoky protections. It really is a dominant midfield turret for CTF setting a nice trap for the enemies chasing down their flag.

It's like a long range version of twins except the shots will hit instantly and you also get critical hits.

Having grown used to melting down as a vulcan, it is ridiculously fun to shoot and shoot with little regard or fear of self-damage:)

I have a question: How is it possible for lower ranks than me to have Smoky M2 ? I thought the earliest rank you can get the M2 modification is at my rank (Captain). So how do people with 1-2 ranks lower than me have it ?

Did they just reduce the needed rank ?

Not to mention a Smoky m1 10/10 at ~ Sergeant.

Rank for being able to buy product kits from the shop has been lowered, so Aborigine kit can be bought at 2nd Lt
