does anybody else think that all the recent updates have been unfair to smoky ? firing rate wise smoky used to be 0.3 sec faster then the rest now its only 0.1 faster.

i'm not saying that smoky is weak (it almost always gets me good results if i play well), but i just feel cheated it no longer has superior firing rate it once enjoyed.

The fastest I remember seeing Smoky shoot was every 1.3 seconds.

And I'm sure they changed around parameters to fit MM balance. I don't see many Smoky protection modules, and I'm surprised given how powerful it is.

So I just accidentally played smoky/wasp...omgosh, I bet smoky is the turret that leads to the most dynamic gameplay with wasp. I never stopped moving...constantly spinning around ppl. So much fun

can rarely oneshot hulls so there are far more threatening turrets to protect against ( atleast how i see it ).

smoky is no longer much faster than its competition, smoky m4 rigth now is at 1.4s and you have turrets like gauss and shaft that are at 1.5 and thunder can go up to 1.5s with alterations, all this while packing more damage.

Those 0.1 seconds can prove fatal, because they add up. Smoky has great impact force and you shooting 0.1 seconds slower than them can result in you potentially never hitting a shot because the Smoky would twist your hull around and after that, they'll have the advantage.

Smoky's shot is instant. Gauss' shot is a projectile and has to travel. Smoky has the advantage in firing rate and in hit success.

Shaft has a limited range and after that, its damage is 25%. Smoky has a much farther range and after that, its 50%.

Thunder never went up to 1.5 seconds of reload. The fastest it went up to was 1.61 seconds. And right now, it can only go up to 1.725 seconds.

Smoky faces considerably less protection modules than Thunder so it's able to deal full damage more often without any obstructions (protection modules).

on paper yes ,but try and dodge a shot if you can.

and what does that have to do with reload speed ?

yeah my bad, wanted to write 1.6 didn't even

notice that they nerfed it (shame).

please explain. do pray tell us, how is it that  smoky with all its majestic glory, such striking powerful fierce sublime turret. does not irk the majorety of our tankers to warrent the mass use of protection modules.

Mostly because it does not kill quickly enough.

Fire and isida can kill a medium hull in 3 seconds.  Smoky would have to be very lucky to do that.

Shaft, Rail Magnum, Striker all do a huge amount of damage in one hit.  Again, smoky needs to peck away unless it gets off an early critical.

Smoky does not instill the fear that the above turrets do.

Most of the other turrets received better buffs in recent years.  Or better alts (excepting the OP incendiary).

Smoky has, relative to other turrets, fallen behind.

I don't see incendiary as so op as everyone says, autocannon and supercumulative are much worse to face.

I do have a smoky module too, but much like with grizzly, it's M0, so I can't really change much by wearing it.

For me, protections against smoky is just not worth it.

Incendiary may give up the critical damage - but - at m3 & m4 the difference between normal damage and crit damage is actually not that high. At m4 it boosts avg damage by ~ 50 within the max damage range. (at long ranges the diff grows due to fall-off of normal damage).

On the other hand, unless you also equip fire module, the Incendiary will do a LOT more damage than the critical does.

Even with fire module equipped I think Incendiary will do more total damage.

At the very least Incendiary forces enemies to equip two modules for 1 turret.

Those auto cannon smokies are becoming really obnoxious, especially when you have to deal with at least 2 of them in every battle.

Meh... Incendiary seems much worse.  I never recover from that burn damage.  Forcing me to equip 2 modules to survive 1 shot is a crime.

Smokys reload speed is the reason why I'm not planning on buying a module for it.

I get that it can be annoying... like a long-range twins in some ways.

But...

The impact force is cut a LOT - so does not have same effect as twins.

And the regular damage is cut disproportionately compared to the increase in fire-rate.

It has it's uses, but I don't find it dominating in the way some other alts do - like Firebird ones or Duplet.

Meh, I have firebird module which covers all the fire alterations. Plus incendiary smokies are quite rare compared to autocannons.

This was only in a few battles but most of the Smokies I encountered in those battles were Autocannon Smokies. There was a battle where the enemy team had 3 Smokies (2 Autocannons and 1 Incendiary) and they just got kill after kill. If I had protection, they'd be less troublesome but I'd rather put crystals into Twins or Firebird protection than Smoky protection.

You don't have at least m2 protection?   Man - that's a defenders dream - knowing 3 enemies have same turret = automatic module equipped.

I don't see Smokies often enough to consider buying it over Fox or Panther. And 3 Smokies on one team is rare, I usually see only one on each team.

And I've only been using 4 protection modules ince they were all so expensive. Ricochet was from the Lizard paint, Hammer and Isida were both from the past Ocelot D-D protection module, and Magnum from purchasing the single module for it when I decided to main Magnum. After that, I had to buy Thunder and Railgun protection from sales, they were just too expensive and I'd only buy protection modules for common turrets.

get some more modules... you will need them more than ever at your rank and above.  I think my brigadier account has ~ 10 modules at 31% each.  Will get to m3 eventually...

ah... but now you gotta buy M3s...  hindsight - buy more m2s next account ;)

I feel as long as you have a good rail/thunder/rico module set you're mostly fine for the general mess in MM.

My account has all modules (except Spider) at M0 and the ones I really need at M1. That had a good start. For my account, it's harder since I used the In Love paint. The ones that I have M0 of, I will buy M2 of, so that I'd have M2s and M1s. But they're expensive and my crystal earnings from gold boxes and (green) containers aren't well these days.

I was reluctant to buy M3 Falcon because even at 50% off, it was more than 100k crystals.

And I...felt a lot happier when I only had 4 modules. Now that I have 6, I feel more pressured and naked when I'm in a battle that contains all of the turrets I have protection against. I was happy when I was limited, as I knew I couldn't do anything about it, but now that I can, it puts even more pressure on me - knowing I can nullify the damage if I took the time in the garage.

Hey Wolverine, how many upgrades does your Smoky have and how much damage do you usually do with non-critical shots up close?

There must be a reason for the sudden surge in Autocannon usage.
